The skills and content learned in World History this year were valuable and interesting. From the flipped lectures to the movies everything played a role in allowing us to learn many new things while also having fun. This is supported by the scenario we acted out which depicted the short version of WWI. I personally learned things about WWI that I didn’t know before and everyone was thoroughly entertained. It is also evident in our project from the beginning of the year in which we used photoshop. I knew of photoshop because I’ve gone to Kamehameha my whole life but I only knew how to use it properly after being in this class. My favorite part of using Photoshop is having the ability to create art without needing to be good at drawing or painting. Photoshop allows those who have great ideas but donʻt have the ability to create them on paper to express themselves. With this in mind, it is evident that through my year in World History the content I learned was beneficial and enjoyable.

Some interesting topics we learned about this year are evolution, revolution, the interwar periods, and WW1 & WW2. This is demonstrated in our FL #3 which is “Evolution to Revolutions”. In this lecture, we learned about various things like the agricultural revolution. This topic was interesting to me because it’s not often we learn about agriculture in school and as Hawaiians, it’s our responsibility to carry on our culture. It’s not often that I think about farming and/or where our food comes from. Learning about the evolution of agriculture was an eye-opener considering it’s easy to be ungrateful for the food we have when 15,000 years ago people were foragers and hunters. Speaking of learning beneficial things this year. My Kahiau project is about Health and well-being via quality education. This project connects skills with world history and current-day issues. For example, while researching we had to focus on something that was currently impacting Hawai’i. This makes things much more engaging than if we were to be doing a project on things that happened years ago. Ultimately, I learned many interesting things in world history and how they connect to current day issues which makes it more engaging.
