How does Colonization set up or impact your Kahiau Project topic as we see it globally throughout our study of history? Does this help or hurt our modern efforts to meet these challenges? Explain how or why? Colonization impacts my Kahiau project because colonization has a pretty direct impact on poverty. People come and manipulate the locals to let them take advantage of the resources the place can offer. They take jobs and land from the locals and overall leads to poverty. We see this primarily in tourism and outsiders coming to Hawaii and moving here, they move, take land, and flush out natives. Person. (2019, July 27). Does it help us or deter us from navigating for a solution to these problems here in Hawaiʻi? Explain why. I feel like Imperialism changed our understanding of History because it shows us what power the government actually holds and how easy it is for them to take over states, or nations. It also helps us understand that we have a sense of resistance in fighting back against the imperialist. Politicians are the biggest imperialists and they bend the rules around for the benefit of themselves. For example the department of permitting were taking bribes in order for people to get their permit faster, this lead many larger companies to fast track their permitting. How does the Industrial age & the Revolutions that occur because of it, like the French Revolution, set up or impact your Kahiau Project topic as we see it globally throughout our study of history? We see this in our government because the French Revolution kind of brought up the idea of tax, or they made it more clear by making the civilians pay more or offer more. Similar to that time, everyone was kind of ganging up on the people in the lower estates so in our modern case and our Kahiau example, the teens and their family in poverty. The tax is being raised and many more ways that the government can take money from you are being introduced. Britannica, T. Editors of Encyclopaedia (2021, February 21). Industrial Revolution. Encyclopedia Britannica. https://www.britannica.com/event/Industrial-Revolution How does understanding these things in History as well as knowing our cultural history through language, culture, and activism in the community, help us to navigate for a solution of these problems here in Hawaiʻi? Understanding the different estates and classes helps us to really see what is going on everywhere around us, for example in a school, we see the principle in the top of the estates, then teachers, then students. In terms of seeing problems using the whole class system, if we look at a state, we see the government on top, then maybe some officials, then the rest, similar to the french revolution we can start to make connections between the whole ganging up thing Britannica, T. This discussion informed me about the importance of art and how it can influence a topic. Art is one of those things that is filled with more passion and emotion then just a speech. You can really pour out your feelings on a poem or a picture. You can use pictures to display the actions that are being taken or the actions that are causing a lot of tragedy. Or you can use a poem to talk about a problem in a catchy way that others will remember better. Recently, my biggest community, Keolu skatepark, has lost one of our best friends. His name was Brandon Lodge, but we called him Troll. He was the one that looked out for the park and would clean it. The park was his home and we were his family. These 2 Haiku poems represent the caretaker in him and what he loved most, going fast. My biggest connection between world history and the current event advocacy is how we both provide similar options to learning about the UN goals. For world history we view the UN goals through the entire world and connect similarities, and for the current event advocacy we learn about them through the events that we or people close to us experience. For example, we would look at how our close community is affected by certain events like poverty. We settled on this topic because we to are teens going through the same schooling process and etc. However, we know that their life is much harder than ours so we feel more sympathy towards them. Our bigger goal is to encourage people to not think of those less fortunate as outsiders and include them. We want to make help available and be there for our fellow students.
I would like to think of the silk roads and the expansion as the very first baby steps of social classes and a hierarchy. People would put all their belongings and even their life on the line in hope of making money and maintaining business, via the silk roads. The lower class would be out marketed by the incoming traders and barely make enough to live. -Pk Selhorst |
