The events of the Silk Road, Exploration, Expansion & Enlightenment impacted the UN Goal & Kahiau Topic that I chose, which is affordable and clean energy, because on the silk road they make themselves known globally, by walking on a trail from place to place. As our goal, we want to make ourselves known globally by making others realize that we can have a better climate and cheaper energy by the hands of the environment. The Silk Road is an overland route where merchants carried goods for trades such as cash crops and our goods are clean energy. The Silk Road also came with a deadly virus also known as the black death. The black death can also relate to my topic because climate change can also happen within the time of this project. Another Impact that occured within my topic was Exploration. Using Industrial / Scientific Revolutions impacted exploration by trading things from all over the world. By exploring these values, they would find resources. In my topics perspective, Using exploration was one major factor because we needed to find eco-friendly products that can help make energy; resources. From exploring, we found many type of energy such as fossil fuel, hydrogen (water energy), wind, oil/coal, solar, and more. That is exploring and traveling are both great factors when making something big that can affect the world. Sources: Akana, M. (n.d.). The Silk Road and Ancient Trade: Crash Course World History #9. Colonization sets up a perfect example as I see it globally in history today and also with my Kahiau Project. Colonization is like having a link with their land over a specific area, aka domination. In my Kahiau Project, we want to launch a system where we can establish reasonable and feasible energy, globally. We want to help people who canʻt afford electric, so in order for that to happen we need to mark our domain on ones land, so we can help them. It wouldnʻt hurt ones single soul to establish this project and also wouldnʻt affect other modern day challenges because we are finding eco-friendly ways to produce energy, for example we can use algae and convert it into biofuel. Imperialism changes our understanding of these things in History through the lens of our cultural history of language, culture, and activism in the community by dominance. Imperialism is the act of expanding ones power by force. We can see this happening all over the world today. In Hawaiʻi, we gained a bunch of new things that includes a new lifestyle and also became a part of democracy. We were given the opportunity to find new ways to help our islands improve, but on the other hand, us Hawaiians still have some negative thoughts on imperialism. Back in ancient Hawaii, we were forced to speak a language that wasnʻt even ours, lost our connection with our culture, and many more. We were forced to adapt to the new environment, westernization, and change our due to the annexation Sources: Google Docs - create and edit documents online, for free. (n.d.-b). Accounts.google.com. ArcGIS StoryMaps; Esri. https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/83474c5d6077492d990b961bab0bcd74 The Industrial Age is something that has impacted the world, especially in the last 1-2 years. During this time of covid, in Hawaiʻi I seen a lot of dramatic changes with economics. Many people are losing their jobs, economy rates are dropping, and majority of products like, food and water, are still are kind of expensive. Due to Covid, people canʻt make that much money as they used to because they donʻt want anyone to be exposed to others, so because of that the things we need the most isnʻt really accessible, but when it comes to a pandemic, many people need to get products such as, essentials. Not only the Pandemic has pushed us to the edge, it has pushed us off the edge. A lot of retails stores products has increased a lot since the start of this pandemic. Reflecting off of this information, it relates to my Kahiau Project because our goals are to find a better, cheaper, and cleaner energy to have what the world wants the most. In a matter a fact, during this time of covid, where everyone is at home, staying inside, using electric, water, and many more, my group members and I are in a proccess of making our product, Project Green. Learning History about our cultural history through language has really brought me into this world where I can make a lot of connections the the past and present. When your mind is dealing with history, the importance of it is "understanding the past is they key to understanding the present." For example, Here in Hawaii, we learn through our culture and past history. We have sacred and significance land, that makes us who we are. On Mauna Kea, we have this movement to protest against having this piece of techonolgy to be plotted on Mauna Kea. Mauna Kea is one of many places that has meaning within itself, we can use this information and teach it to our young ones. Activism played a big role in this problem because we as kanaka needed our voices to be heard towards others out there that can help. This hasnʻt only happnened once, but multiple times. What I learned from Dania, an art activism, is that she used art (her passion) to lead her to her great journey. She was a very quiet girl who kept things to herself, but as she used art she made herself become more open to the world. After learning about that, I realized how art is really important through modern society because it guides us to where we can make a change and where we can start a foundation. This is a really great poem that I wrote very thoroughly. So basically my poem is literally discussing the references of light and the different ways it helps the society today. I compared how we can see light used on a daily basis. I reflected my past into how I can use it in the future. My poem means that light is something that we all need in life and that it can help us when we are stuck in a hole. For example, a light bulb is like an idea. When we have the brightest idea it lights up and we can go into depth on that topic. I hope one day, you can find your own personal light bulb and use it for a bright future. Hi guys! To me the most important connection between World History and current event advocacy is the awareness of our surroundings. I can also relate the connections to a theme I learned in class which is “apply information from the past to solve present problems.” In World History we obviously learn history and how we can use/learn it in the future. In our current events we talk about how things in the world can impact not just one community, but many more. By using world history as a guide throughout our current events and life we can apply what happened in the past to solve present problems and potentially future problems. The most impactful idea that I have gained through Rock Your Word Curriculum about the importance of media advocacy in this generation is to let your idea stand out and let it be heard. To solve problems in the real world you would need to let your ideas get ahead of you and guide you to be successful. Making yourself be heard is what everyone wants in the world. For example, our president runs everything to make sure we get what we need and make everything run smoothly. Sometimes, in order for that to happen you want suggestions from the public and see if everyone agrees on those terms and to see if it will improve. Let your voice be heard, so it can help communities build more on their ideas and how it can help. Akana, H. (2020, June 1). Lā 1D SY20-21: Why Study History?
