Skills and content learned in World History this year that were valuable and interesting were things like the first civilizations, geographical advantages and disadvantages in early times, along with the more morbid parts of war. I enjoyed learning about the first civilizations because it was interesting to me to learn about how early humans interacted with each other and learned to use their resources. I think this would fall under the topic of sociology, which I enjoy, so maybe that is why I like this unit so much. Another thing I enjoyed learning about were the advantages and disadvantages of different places throughout the world in early times when humanity was beginning to form civilizations, develop agriculture, and technologically advance. It was interesting to learn why some places had need for things that others didn't, and why some progressed much quicker than others. The third thing I listed earlier that I enjoy learning about is the more morbid parts of war. Not only is it interesting to learn about the things that are generally not spoken about, but it is also important to be aware and have knowledge of them because it is dangerous to not know the full story. Two new skills I learned that I might use in other classes or in my future endeavors are the methods of note taking that we use for our assignments, and answering questions by restating them as statements in the answer. I would use the methods of note taking that we use for our assignments because it is very thorough and organized. While I may not use the exact strategy we do, I can definitely take some elements of it and implement it into my own note taking strategies by doing things like creating specific questions for myself to answer, and separating my notes into different sections to keep them orderly. This would benefit me because when taking notes, I tend to list everything in an outline format, which makes it difficult to organize my notes as I take them. A second skill I learned that I might use in other classes or in my future endeavors is answering questions by restating them as statements. This will help me because it will make it clear which questions I am answering from the prompts. This will benefit me because while I usually am able to get my points across in my writing, I generally tend to not make it clear which question I am answering, which makes it weird because the reader to know the answer without knowing the original question. By restating the question as a statement, it makes it clear which question I am answering and ensures that it is not overlooked. The thing I liked best about photoshop was the creative aspect and the amount of personal touch we were allowed to include in our work. The thing I liked best about Illustrator was that it was user friendly and made it simple to complete my assignments. I think it is possible I would use these applications for school projects in the future because they are simple yet effective ways to communicate my learning.
