The skills and content I learned in World History this year were valuable and interesting to me. I learned a lot more about the significance of history and most importantly how to connect that history in the states to here in Hawaiʻi. I think the most interesting part to me was realizing the greater effect the “greedy” mentality the leaders in the states had on our people in Hawaiʻi. How it resulted in us losing our independent kingdom. Prior to this class, I only knew the common information about the overthrow. But digging deeper and watching videos and seeing actual evidence of what life was like back then. Like seeing for myself the thought process in which led up to us almost forgetting all we had.
Two new skills that I learned that I might need in my other classes is how to use photoshop. Photoshop was one of my biggest challenges this year and I think if I can continue to practice using what I learned when we made our leader posters then I should be able to apply that to my future classes. This skill will be useful in times when I need to create something visually appealing or something informational with pictures. Something I liked best about photoshop is how customizable things can be. There are lots of features and buttons that you can use to create something however you want. However, the biggest challenge for me personally was remembering what each unique tool can do.
