In my perspective, it is vital that the skills and knowledge weʻve learned in World History are valuable and interesting. The skills that were taught helped me to comprehend and understand what we are learning more clearly. History is valuable as it is important to know and understand so we can change the future positively. For instance, a skill that I developed was making PEELS. This skill helped me to sum up what I learned in a Flipped Lecture or project research and is valuable for future assignments that include researching and writing many essays. Another skill I learned was using photoshop and illustrator to create a poster that showed what I learned about my world leader. This helped me visually show how my world leader and Hawaiian leader lead similarly and differently. I would use this in the future as it grabs the audience's attention to what you're presenting and gives a more artistic way of summing up what you've learned. Secondly, we learned about how leadership has a role in society, a kingdom, a country, etc. This knowledge is interesting and valuable to me because it gives an overview of how past leaders and current leaders have an impact on what they're leading whether it be positive or negative. Their values and belief systems are key to their leadership, however, thinking about their people and the thing they are leading first can change history more dramatically. Furthermore, the skills and content learned in this class are valuable and interesting when they are being used for future purposes like through skills in school, and in learning history to shape the future positively.
Some interesting topics we learned so far this year were leadership, the industrial revolution, and colonization. During our world leader projects, I researched Thutmose the 3rd and Kamehameha the Great. These leaders at the time had a role of expanding their empires, they led with power, and fought in the wars with their army. Thutmose the third, “conducted 17 successful campaigns into Asia during his rule as King,” Thutmose III. (2018). Funk & Wagnalls New World Encyclopedia, 1. Kamehameha the great showed that he was a skilled warrior during his first battle. It was said that he, “Kekūhaupi’o’s feet got caught in the sweet potato vines in the sweet potato field and fell. But, if it weren’t for his student, Kamehameha, and his quick action, then he would have died.” Kamehameha Schools. (1993,2021) “Kamehameha the Great” Kamehameha Schools. Not only did he help himself stay on his feet and be quick to win the battle he also helped his kumu which he didnʻt need to do. This is an example of great leadership because he didnʻt just think about himself, he thought about the ones he cared about. These two leaders show the importance of how leadership can change an empire, they lead with a reason and make it happen. Moving on to the topic of the industrial revolution, it made me interested in learning about it as we get to see the history of ancient tools to modern tools. The industrial revolution is anything that we use to sustain us today that arenʻt from farming or from the land. This indicates that most of our everyday uses are dependent on the industrial revolution. Thus, the reason for it to exist is because of the lead line, and after them, a domino effect occurred in the industrial businesses. “The industrial revolution was an increase in production which was brought about by the use of machines and characterized by the use” (Green, John. (Aug. 30, 2012) “Crash Course”). This plays a role in our lives due to its heavy use of it, and knowing the history of the industrial revolution can explain why we use the things we use today to help us in everyday tasks. Lastly, colonization was another interesting topic to learn about. I learned that colonization is the relationship of domination of the European over the native or other colors of races based on racial difference. An example of how colonization impacted people of color is tha “They have to leave their family and homeland, and are worked to death,”(Flip lecture 9). This shows that colonialism has a negative impact on people of color and in which creates inequalities economically, socially, and agriculturally. From this, colonization can make it hard for people of color or native people to live healthy and wealthy. It is evident that the Kahiau project connects skills with history and current-day issues. Research shows that the PSA part of the project can help raise awareness of a problem and find a solution to that problem visually. Being able to reach out to an audience more likely a younger audience, it would perpetuate your campaign evidently throughout the years. A PSA can grasp the audienceʻs attention and “make them feel like they have to do something” (RYW lecture on PSA). This is important in order to enhance a change in a cause that you are putting awareness to. In all, the whole project will motivate others to take action and solve past issues that are current slowly but gradually.
