I KA MAKA O KO MĀKOU MAU ALAKAʻI
IN THE EYES OF OUR LEADERS
It can be argued that the resources/ ʻāina can be leveraged by a group leader in the middle ages. This is illustrated when Johannes Gutenberg & the printing press was created where the press was a history-changing invention, “making making books widely accessible and ushering in an “information revolution.” It is clear from this that the revolution of the printing press was in immediate effect and the information provided spreaded quickly and accurately. It was a mass production that served the necessities the people needed in the middle ages. From this is can be concluded that Johannes Gutenberg used his resources to spread the information that needed to be public as fast as possible with it being accurate. |

It also can be argued that the printing press was impacted by leadership character traits. For instance, “ the printing press allowed the spread of Christianity”. It also brought “a new form of entertainment, the creation of the protestant division, and literature to the poor.” This demonstrates that there was education involved with these resources being able to inspire others to develop their literature. Also it is a good trait that brought the ability to connect and collaborate with other writers. All this evidence explains that the printing press was impacted by leadership character traits through education, and the ability to connect and collaborate. Tyra Lum |
The leadership character traits of the leader of a group can affect the value system of a group of people in many ways. For example, if a group leader, like Pauahi, has a good commitment to a group, is good at being accountable, can adapt to changes easily, and has good social skills then that will help their group succeed. But if a leader isnʻt good at communicating socially with their group then it will keep their group at square one with nothing done because of poor communication skills.

This shows that if a group leader has good character traits then it will affect the group in a positive way but if they have bad character traits then they will have a negative impact on the entire group. Bernice Pauahi was able to commit to multiple groups to help others and she always did her best to help motivate others which in the end helped each and every group she came into contact with.

It can be argued that geography can impact the resources a group controls. This is because different places will have important things that others donʻt. This also does affect the way civilization can evolve because many places will have important resources but not have something else important that is needed for evolution. For example when Martin Luther brought his resource, in this case, a different way of thinking to the catholic churches and tried to help them evolve in their mind in this case.

Also, Hawaii and captain cook is another example. When captain cook came to Hawaii used the resources that he brought like metal, to evolve weapons and other things. Also, the captain used some of the Hawaiiʻs resources like food. These two examples prove that geography can impact resources because without captain cook Hawaiians wouldʻve had no metal to make new weapons, and catholic churches would only have very simple ways of thinking. In conclusion, geography can impact the resources a group controls because different places will have important things that others donʻt. Micah Lau |
Sustainability rights are important and play a role in in leveraging resources as civilizations grow and evolve is making sure that the resources keep their value. A prime example of this is moscovium, a synthetic element only found in Russia. Because it's only found in Russia it needs to be leveraged so that Russia can use it to the best of their ability and interest. This is important because if they were to mishandle moscovium the method of making it would get out and it would lose value. Thus that is one role that sustainability rights have. Zion Friel-Lacar |

Another role that sustainability rights play in leveraging resources as civilizations grow and evolve is properly spreading itʻs resources. Throughout the world there are places that are in need of more supplies than others, and it's like equality vs equity. On one hand you could give the same amount throughout the civilization but then some will have more than they need or less. The amount of supplies needed in different areas will change over time and grow. This is relevant to sustainability rights that need to figure how much an area needs. And that is how another role for sustainability rights plays is figuring out how to spread itʻs resources.
