Scotty: In my group, I had Akela, Dane, Logan, and myself. Our topic was on pollution, but more specifically ocean pollution since we live on an island and are surrounded by water. The slogan that we proposed was, “Be a part of the solution, not the pollution." Doing a collaborative project during COVID was a very strange and difficult experience because we didn't all come together to film and plan, it was more like every do their own individual filming and then submit it to a chosen editor who puts it all together. I don't think that our project was submitted to the competition, part of that is because I feel like we weren't able to plan out thoroughly and put in each of our maximum efforts. So we ended up with just a decent video. I think that the best way to improve the process would be to meet up all together and plan out, film, and try to edit together so that we all can put our own two scenes together.
Kainoa: In my group, I had Lenox, Courtney, and Jodi. Our slogan was "Malama lolo kakou me hoa." My experience was very interesting and fun. I am very thankful that I had a very hardworking group that pulled their weight. I didn't submit the project but Courtney did. The reason she submitted it was because she did all of the final edits. I just submitted my voice recording. I don't know why our project was not submitted. I guess it was too long or maybe a little dull. The second try I think I would have been more active in the editing process. I would have made our video more interesting.
Noah: In my group, I had Devin, Kiana, Zach, Breylin, and myself. Our topic was pollution in the water and land. The slogan we had was He aliʻi ka ʻāina, he kauā ke kanaka. This meant “The land is a chief; man is its servant” We picked up trash on the beach and on land trying to show that this trash can get to the ocean and ruin our reef and kill our fish.
Dane: My group members for this project were Logan, Scotty, Micah, Akela, and I. Our topic was pollution which leads and gets to our oceans. Our slogan was, Be part of the solution, not the pollution. I think this was definitely a new experience for me because usually with group work it would be in person and in a way easier to communicate. But since this was online then it was more difficult to communicate. I was glad to be able to try this version of a collaborative project. Yes the project did get submitted into the competition. I didnʻt win or anything like that. I would improve this project by having better camera work because I was kind of rushing it and it wasnʻt steady. And also in overall communicate better with group members so that it would be good.
