Colonization impacts my Kahiau Project topic of No Poverty because the natives were basically robbed of their land and wealth and then put into a system made against them. In Hawaii we were colonized and now many Native Hawaiians are struggling to keep up with the high cost of living in Hawaii. Many people struggle to make ends meet and with the average salary being $65,000 dollars and needing $122,000 to live comfortably. That leads to over 6,000 homeless in Hawaii and many more living in poverty. Colonization hurt our modern efforts to meet these challenges of poverty. 2020 Homeless Point In Time Count. (n.d.). In our communities we see many homeless and lots of us just see it as a normality in Hawaii. It deters us from navigating to a solution because not many people know the seriousness of poverty in Hawaii and the world. Its a huge problem that needs to be fixed immediately. We should be focusing on more jobs and affordable housing instead of trying to make a gated community filled with mansions on Maui we should be using that money for affordable housing. Our government is corrupt and they value the commercial value of Hawaii rather than valuing the people here and trying to fix the problems in the state and helping those in poverty. Davis, C. In the french revolution there were classes of people that determined what they get and how much say they have. This system was supposedly abolished but you can still see some of the similarities today. For example the clergy which to put it simply are the rich people. In history this class had political power and had to pay very little tax to no tax at all. Today that is simillar to rich people and although they have to pay taxes some have off shore accounts and have ways to pay no tax at all. While lower class people have to pay lots of taxes. Peasants were also another class today that would connect to the homeless, people in poverty, and low income households. This class pays taxes and in history made little to nothing at all and had basically no say. Today it has gotten better but it is still a bad situation. People make minimum wage and struggle to make ends meet or end up on the streets. |
