Empire Project Final Presentation
We think that one of the main contributions of the Mongol Empire was itʻs ability to be accepting of all cultures and religions. This is evident in the ways the Khans conquered all of China and other parts of Asia, as they needed the peopleʻs trust in order to keep their empire and trading routes alive and thriving. To do this, they had to make sure they were not discriminating against any certain group of faiths. And so because this plan worked, Mongolia became a place of many different people that all lived together in one conquered empire. This is important in the modern world because in the other empires, and even today, many places are not accepting of people of different faiths and some people are still being discriminated against for it. The Mongols taught an important lesson of being accepting of others, even if they did kill and conquer quite a bit, but this acceptance is something that we need today.

Emperor Kōmei: Emperor Kōmei is very stubborn at first but then he discovers that in resisting the foreigners he’s putting his people in danger. This makes him enlightened. After being enlightened he allows trade and is much more lenient with the westerners. I believe my leader is enlightened because after realizing his people were in danger because of his choices, he changed them even if it went against his beliefs. Through showing that he is willing to change for the betterment of his people shows that he is an enlightened person.
Kalani Kalima: Kalani Kalima in his leadership shows he cares for his people. He shows he is caring by coming up with new ways to make money for our state when our old way of making money is failing. He is willing to take time to come up with ideas and different ways to better help our state income. He fully understands that our old way of making income at this time is not very effective. He plans to make new ways for his people to make money and thrive. He’s identified our biggest threat right now and is aiming to fix it to help all of us.

Kumu Hinaleimoana Wong: Kumu Hinaleimoana Wong a kanaka maoli who is deeply invested in the development of the Native Hawaiian people as a nation. Kumu Hina is a strong advocate for our rights as a people in our own homelands, and this is evident when she leads protests and marches against projects such as the TMT that could destroy our peopleʻs sacred ways of life.. She says “Those of us on Oahu, Kauai, Maui and Molokai, we unite and we will be in the movement tomorrow. We will be moving and marching the road and we will express ourselves and we will demonstrate the fortitude of a lahui that has risen”. As Native Hawaiians, we have had many people advocate for us, but nothing helps our cause more as when strong people like Kumu Hina gather us together that have clear goals of uniting our people once again, and leading us into the future. Because Kumu Hina fights so diligently for us, she knows what we need to do in order to develop into the future as a people and as a nation.
Emperor Meiji: During the Meiji period, Emperor Meiji was an important figure and symbol for the new development and modernization of Japan. In 1868, his administration created the Charter Oath of the Meiji Restoration. Some of the five points were, “Evil customs of the past shall be broken off and everything based upon the just laws of Nature,” and, “Knowledge shall be sought throughout the world so as to strengthen the foundations of imperial rule.” This comes after Japanʻ physical and cultural isolation from the rest of the world for over 200 years. During that time they created their own unique culture that was unaffected by outside influences, with a booming economy and an explosion of culture. But by these two points, it is clear that Meiji wants his people to move into the future, and that he thinks that they (his people) are ready to modernize, while still keeping the knowledge of their cultural past with them. All in all, Meiji only wanted what was best for Japan, and in his eyes that was for his people to accept the outside world and to finally develop as a nation of different influences.

Through this hybrid blended environment I have learned a whole lot. I learned self advocacy through not only the PSA but also the guest speakers from RYW. I learned how to be more confident and to not be afraid to speak my mind. I also learned about the many hardships that the people before me went through. I can apply kupono to stand up for the people of Hawaii and get back the land that the Hawaiian people rightfully deserve. This hybrid blended environment helped to teach me how to be a good leader, what a good leader looks like, and also to be more confident. I can take what I learned about talking about what is on my mind and not be afraid to speak what's on my mind to make my own brand just like one of the guest speakers from RYW.

Through this Hybrid Blended environment, I learned about things like self advocacy for our people through things like the PSA or Empire and iLeader projects. I learned about things like how we can help our people through poverty and homelessness. I can apply values like aloha aina and patriotism to my everyday life now by always seeking to help our Hawaiian people in need, such as myself and others I know. With this new knowledge, I now know more about how to be a good leader for my people than ever before. I can take what I learned about good leaders of the present and past and apply it to myself.
