-->What are some examples of how IMPERIALIZATION / GLOBALIZATION is creating challenges in your own island, community, state, nation that relates to this UN Goal / Issue?
Imperialization and globalization have become big issues here in Hawaii and have changed the economy of our island. With changes being made constantly like new buildings and businesses, it has become harder to preserve the natural beauty of our island. Our kahiau project focuses on trying to help -->Why is this something to consider: Do you see a specific (friends or family you know) with a personal connection to this (and please try to find at least one) - what/who is it and why? -->What, if anything, are you learning about Imperialization/Globalization and how has your understanding of the impacts of it perhaps influenced the way you see your group topic as a worthwhile challenge or problem to be addressed? This is important to us because pollution is a huge problem in Hawaii and itʻs starting to get out of hand. It has influenced us because this island is our home and itʻs where we live as hawaiians. Our ancestors lived in a community where everything was clean and diseaseless. We, as a group want it to stay that way so we can preserve many important things like the land most importantly. This is a challenge to us because until someone fixes this problem, itʻs going to keep happening day after day and before you know it, there will be no more land for hawaiians to use or clean air to breathe. Getting rid of the pollution wonʻt take a day. It wouldnʻt even take a month. This is what makes it a challenge to many people to get rid of. What, if anything, are you learning about Colonization or Globalization and how has your understanding of the impacts of Colonization and/or Globalization perhaps influenced the way you see your group topic as a challenge or problem to be addressed? I am learning about the effects of having some people over from other countries and what they can do to our land. As hawaiians, we have some of the most crucial people living here because hawaiian people are almost extinct. This is because of the people that are invited here. They litter all over like at the beach, sidewalks, streets, yards and in the air. Not only is it trash but itʻs also from letting them build and keep it up forever. Factories and ships come in and pollute all over because the government lets this happen. If today was like ancient hawaii, weʻd be completely natural and healthy. Ever since the first foreigner stepped foot on the islands, itʻs been terrible and so much has happened since then. Not only in Hawaii but everywhere. America is one of the most trashiest place in the world just because they keep building and they donʻt care about anything except money and they rely on technology.
This winter break I was assigned the task to complete some my groupʻs Kahiau project. We were supposed to create a website on Weebly about trash and how it affects our ecosystems lucky for Hawaiʻi, we live in a world of pollution. With buildings on our sides, smoke in the air and trash in our luxurious oceans, it makes it easy to talk about the affects it has on resources and lives or organisms. During this break I researched some non profits that help out with the pollution control. However I was not able to participate in these activities because of sports and family related situations. During the times I went around the island I accumulated many knowledge on the wild life in the area and payed attention to how much pollution was around the area then added it up. I now know many things about the ecosystem to pollution ratio in certain areas
