Branson: Lanakila Manguil and Mark Antony
The empire that I researched for our iLeader project is the Ottoman empire. The geographic area that I researched is areas such as Turkey, Egypt, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Macedonia, Hungary, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, and also parts of the Arabian Peninsula and North Africa. And the leader that I researched is Lanakila Manguil and Mark Antony. Lanakila Mangauil is a protestor that stands up for the Hawaiian culture, and one of the many people that fought for Mauna Kea. Mark Antony was a well known speech giver, who used his words to get across many points and arguments, and bring awareness to the people of Rome. Mark Antony was born on January 14, 83 BC, and he died on August 1, 30 BC. The impacts on civilization that these two leaders had was that they were able to bring awareness to the people, and they were able to use their confidence, and knowledge to educate the people around them. The leadership terms I chose that my leaders exemplified were confidence and thoughtfulness. The reason why I chose these leadership terms is because they show what each leader is like when they are doing what they are known for. They are confident in themselves and they think about the feelings and opinions of others.

Christian: Eddie Aikau and King Yax Pasaj Chan Yoppat
This is my Ileaders poster. The two leaders that I chose were Eddie Aikau and King Yax Pasaj Chan Yoppat. Eddie Aikau was a surfer, lifeguard for the city and county of Honolulu in Hawaii, and recruited by the Polynesian voyaging society to help and perpetuate the Hawaiian culture on the Hokulea. He was born on May 4th in 1946 and died on March 17th 1978 due to a tragic accident while voyaging on the Hokulea. I chose him because he is the embodiment of an amazing Hawaiian who showed the true symbol of Aloha. My next leader was King Yax Pasaj chan Yoppat or just known as King Yax Pac. He was the 2nd to last leader of the Mayan kingdom. The symbol that I chose for him was the surfboard to represent his duty as a lifeguard and his job to protect people in need. The quote that I chose was the famous line of Eddie would go . I chose the leadership qualities of Aloha, Kokua and Koa. Aloha is shown when he would prepetuate his culture on the Hokulea, kokua was a lifeguard, and Koa when he would be a warrior and go and try to get help when his friends were in danger. Next, King Yax pac, I chose a torch as a symbol for him because it represents how being a ruler was passed down to him, and how he was the last ruler left for his people. The leadership qualities that yax pac showed were dedication, influence, and respect. He showed dedication by doing his best to improve the lives of his people such as making his civilization more agricultural based. He showed great influence in culture by making his monuments and altars in order to perpetuate his culture, we can even see some of his monuments today showing that he succeeded. He showed respect because as a ruler, he was the last person to truly be respected as a ruler for his noble acts for his people.

Leilani: Mansa Musa and David Malo
For my project I researched the Kingdoms of Mali and Ghana. Focusing on their leader Mansa Musa. Mansa Musa was the ruler of Mali from 1312 C.E. to 1337 C.E. While he reigned, Mali was one of the richest kingdoms of Africa. During his time and to this date he is known as one of if not the richest individual in the world. Mansa Musa built several Great Mosques. The Great Mosque was the center of Mali and became the epicenter of religious and cultural life. He is remembered in the Middle East and Europe for the splendour of his pilgrimage to Mecca in 1324 C.E. He was often described as kind and his genius system to regulate his and the country's wealth ushered in their prosperity. I find his approach to handling those things as exemplary. He used his wealth to raise Africaʻs esteem, spread his knowledge and beliefs respectfully, while cleverly controlling the amount of gold in circulation to maintain that wealth. I chose Mansa Musa because he seems like an incredibly important historical figure. But despite that I had never even once heard his name mentioned before. His existence is an example of the wealth that Africa once held and how foreign colonizers and invaders took that away.
David Malo is best known for his written accounts of Hawaiian civilization before the influence of Christianity. He was born on the Big island of Hawaiʻi in Keauhou, 1793, and lived in a small village on the coastline of East Maui until his passing on October, 21, 1853. He lived during the time period when Kamehameha I first united the islands and is esteemed as an important historian for the Hawaiian Kingdomʻs history. He made many other achievements such as forming the first Hawaiian historical society, writing the history of Kamehameha I (a now lost manuscript), he composed a poem named “He Kanikau o Ka’ahumanu”, publishing the book “Ancient Hawaiian Antiques”, and becoming the first Maui house of representatives. He is described as faithful and hardworking. I deeply respect his conviction and the way he decided to focus it. In contrast to why I chose Mansa Musa, I decided on David Malo because of his many achievements in preserving Hawaiiʻs rich history and culture. His work is simply priceless while his actions to quickly preserve it are even more endearing.

Apuakea: Suleiman the Magnificent and Mililani Trask
The leader I researched was Suleiman bin Selim Khan, sultan of the Ottoman Empire. He ruled from 1520 to 1566. He was born sometime between November 1494 and April 1495. He died on September 5 or 6, 1566. He greatly expanded the Ottoman Empire through military campaigns and codified the Ottoman legal system. Suleiman the Magnificent also worked to develop Ottoman culture, including literature, art, and architecture. The icons I chose were the Suleiman's Tughra, the Caspian tiger, and the Coat of arms of the Ottoman Empire. I chose Suleiman's Tughra because it symbolizes Suleiman's contribution to Ottoman art. The Caspian tiger is now extinct, but it used to inhabit eastern Turkey. I used it to embody Suleiman's formidable reputation and royal lineage. Finally, I use the Coat of arms of the Ottoman Empire to represent his military prestige. The leadership term I chose was fairness. Suleiman exemplified fairness by creating the Ottoman legal system, earning him the title "Suleiman the Lawgiver."
