Comparison of Hunter-Gathering to Agriculture:
When it comes to hunting the natives were able to do this by setting traps and luring out the animals they sought after whether it be for food or the resources that could’ve been made out of it. They also would use skills like fishing, gathering, and farming so there was enough food for the whole tribe. These would change over the years to today's modern society where you can get anything you need from your local grocery store and you don't have to farm for it or even go hunting. This makes it easier to get food and feed your family. One pro of this is thanks to technology we are able to maximize the animals at the farm and we can modify them to be more healthier or even have more meat to harvest. Humanity has evolved and it is much easier and safer to get what we need. One con of this is that since we rely on manufacturers so much to get and make the things we need, if something were to happen to them then we wouldn't know the skill or knowledge of how to farm, hunt, and gather resources to use and eat.

Why You Need to Know:
Centuries ago Native Hawaiians were completely independent and didnʻt rely on the help of others. They would grow their own food and make everything that they needed to survive in the world. According to an article titled, Native Hawaiians Divided on Federal Recognition it says, “Many Native Hawaiians reject the idea of being dependent and wonʻt settle for anything, but independence.” In todayʻs world, we can get food and things that we need from the store using money. In order for someone to make a lot of money, they need to have a good education which can set them up to get a job that pays them well. Comparing how our ancestors and people in today's world acquired things you can see that there is a huge difference. We went from being completely independent people to dependent on the world outside of Hawaiʻi.

How it Applies to Climate Change:
Out topic is Climate Action. Native traditions of foraging/hunter-gathering oppose modern agricultural societies revolving around climate change because, pollution. "Humanity's increased use of fossil fuels – such as coal, oil and gas to generate electricity, run cars and other forms of transport, and power manufacturing and industry" (WWF). They are opposed because when there were tribes hunting and looking for food, they were making zero pollution. These days we use electricity for everything, using pollutive materials to create electricity, emitting gas and smoke everywhere. The graph below shows how climate change has increased over the years. As time goes on and human tech gets better. Climate change will also continue to rise unless we do something about it.
