1. What progress have you made on your project?
I finally organized some of the cans gathered and put it into a box with more of an order. We arenʻt going to give the box to the Hawaii food bank quite yet, but at least weʻre getting closer and getting more ready to that step. 2. Look at the essential questions and construct a written and video blog response for your Weebly weekly update. How is this project important to helping our local and global community? In our community, there is a very high homeless rate. Hawaii is the state with the most homeless in all of the U.S. Hawaii is only so big and there are only limited resources. Therefor, it makes it harder for the homeless to find food and needed resources. This project is helping them survive by giving them more food sources. How is my learning these particular leadership & technical skills of project management important to my future contribution to the Lāhui? It is important to our people because this project is keeping people alive. Although the homeless do come from other states and other countries, theyʻre still in Hawaii. Hawaii will always be one, we are all a family. So, we are helping our family stay alive so we can be stronger and more nourished in the future. 3. Are there any Changes to the plan .. what specifically will be your next 3 steps for the month of February? There are no changes, we still have the same plan by gathering, organizing, and shipping to distribute. We will still gather more cans if possible because more the merrier, and we already organized lots, but we still will need to keep up the organizing process as we collect more. Our main step we will be completing is getting all of our cans to the Hawaii food bank so they can then distribute it to the needy. Our topic is called, “Save the Crave.” This topic deals with the issue of homeless and their problem of not having enough food. Due to their lack of money, they have a hard time getting the food and supplies they need, leaving them starving. We are trying to help their problem of hunger by getting as much can food donations as possible to give to them to eat. This is very important because everyone, even the homeless deserves a right to eat and to survive. We should all give a helping hand as human kind.
My group includes Jaydeen, Hauʻoli and Klaudia. We are all in a class together at Kamehameha and our group strives to help others. Over winter break, we would just like to at least start up our can good collections. For example, gathering some donations weʻd like to give to the homeless and getting the word out to other people to make them start thinking about them donating as well. We basically just want to start up with the collection, but we donʻt need to have anything big yet. We didnʻt do a whole lot of the project, but some things that were challenging was just getting this whole project organized. This whole time we have been working on this project it was basically just planning everything out. That was still a very hard step. We had to go through a very long process in making sure everything could be approved by our teacher and everything was set and organized in the right place. We also had to make sure that all of our group members followed and we were all on the right page. I expect to learn and understand the difficulty of a business. Although we are not raising any money like most businesses, we still have to organize and plan everything out like a business and we have already tasted some of that hard work during the process. I also hope I learn to make my work more organized so I can use this skill for the next time I need donations like possibly future fundraisers. I am going to ask my parents for help in getting the word out about getting donations and also possibly getting donations from my parents as well. They can be my mode of transportation while getting the donations and I will also need the help of other classmates and other members in my community with donating. Hi, itʻs Aislen with my first post! So far, we had not completed any actions to actually tame homelessʻ hunger, but we are doing great at planning it out! Weʻre planning a project called, "Save the Crave," which allows us to donate what can goods we have, and collect other peopleʻs donations as well. Once we have a lot o f can goods, we will distribute it all around to keep the homelessʻ stomachʻs growling less! We really believe homeless deserve the right to eat, as we are all human and need food to survive! As people who love eating, we really feel for the homeless that donʻt have the same rights as us, so lets help them out a bit.
