From Evolution to Revolution
The shift from the skills of native becoming hunter gatherers and finding their own food was/is important throughout the lives of many populations. Many ages ago, people survived on animals which was something they needed to acquire, so they came up with hunting. At that time, they had to be very smart at how to do it, when to do it, and to be a step ahead, because of that it was hard for the populations. Also, they had to deal with climate and their surroundings. In modern day, we have technology, which is very important and impactful. We literally need a push of a button to get what we want. To be honest, when looking in the future, technology is something that we shouldn’t always depend on. If we depend on technology, our skills of being a hunter gatherer could potentially be lost forever and never be taught in the future.

The idea that “native traditions of foraging/hunter-gathering” and “modern Agriculture societies” impacts our Kahiau project greatly beyond Covid and for our future generations. This idea has influenced our state even before the pandemic and even if the pandemic did not occur we would still be dealing with this issue. This is because of how our lands have changed over the past century. About a hundred years ago most of our land was used for agriculture and people usually relied on the sea as a food source. Our ancestors used methods such as taro farms or fish ponds to grow enough food for the people. This allowed for the people to sustain its population, but in modern times most of that land is now used for homes or military purposes. And even if we had the latest and greatest methods for farming we still would not have the supplies necessary to sustain the population we have today. In fact about 90% of the state's entire food supply comes from the mainland. The issue is how we use our lands today, since most of it is now being used either for the military, the housing market or tourism purposes instead of agriculture.

Impacts of Religion, Culture, Enlightenment,
& Exchanges through Expansion
Even though the Europeans were experiencing a so-called “Dark Age” it can be said that most of the world was not going through this kind of event. This is because the Dark Age was a term used by historians in the 17th century to describe their biased opinions of this era. Their biases to Romans enlightenment period and their eventual downfall of technology and ways of thinking is why the Dark Ages are given their name. In fact most of the world was not affected by the Dark Ages at all in fact in some areas it can be said that others flourished when Europe did not. For example, in the Islamic world they were making leaps in mathematics, architecture and sciences that they created or adopted from other civilizations.
The idea of religion vs culture that is controlled by the church has a major focus on the mindset to switch from the Dark Ages to Enlightenment. This is because during this period there was a burst of cultural ideas from the christian faith meanwhile the major christian churches held a monopoly over most of Europe. This expulsion of the church would later lead to the Reformation of later Christians and the Enlightenment of Europe. I think that this way of thinking could impact our Kahiau issue. This is because we can use the idea of reforming how we could use energy in a more clean and efficient way.
During the period of the Silk Roads, there were many events of Exploration and Exchanges. Of course during this time many things were being traded between groups of people from many places. According to the video, these things include, geographical areas, culture, goods, ideas, people, and diseases. In this time, the trading and exchanging of things lead to advancements of technology, the economy, etc. As time went on, new ideas were developed and we began to see drastic changes. New things were being invented and this only happened more as time went on. Leading all the way up to now, many things have been invented relating to energy. Through the change that happened throughout the centuries, the way energy was gained changed as well. The most used resource for energy and fuel is fossil fuels and other non-renewable sources. This is bad for the environment, so people came up with harvesting energy from the sun and wind. This is not only cleaner energy, but can also be more affordable which is why we are fighting for this way of harvesting energy.
Reflecting upon today's society, I believe that understanding history has value and can contribute in finding solutions to our modern-day challenges. As our lives developed as from the stone ages through technology and new discoveries, I have seen a lot of different things develop. “Understanding the past, is the key to understanding the present” (Akana, 2020). The reason why I chose this quote is because looking at the development of the past and how it led up to today, is that there are some key patterns. For example, looking at an article I did some research on once, they dealt with many issues like the coronavirus and wildfire. Back in the Silk Road period, there was a life threatening virus called Black Death, the bubonic plague. These viruses are deadly and can spread easily. Looking upon the past, they knew that if they were to not isolate themselves they could get the virus and cause the fatal pandemic to be more fatal. To understand what is happening in the present you need to know what happened in the past.

Competition for Resources in a Global Society
Even though the global conflicts are considered 2 global events, we can see that the effects from the First World War had some impacts into why the second World War Started. One of the reasons could be the effects of the Treaty of Versailles had on the Central power of Germany. After the Great War, Germany was on the losing side of the war and some of the treatments given to them by the treaty could have been one of the factors leading to the Second World War. They lost their colonies, were forced to demilitarize their army and had to pay a lot of war reparations which the new German government could not pay fully back at the time.Due to this the economy was slowly repairing itself which caused major effects on the german population as they hated the treatment and effects of the treaty. This treaty later lead for radicals like the Nazi party to gain more favor with the german populace as they promised to undo the effects of the treaty leading them to become the new government of Germany. Due to the effects caused by the First Great war it could seem like its effects caused the outbreak of the second one.
The Agricultural, Scientific, and Industrial Revolutions triggered something within the people which allowed them to gain new skills and knowledge. As time went on, advancements eventually resulted in a time of prosperity and obviously enlightenment. With the people having new insight on life and other things, such as war and weaponry, new technology was created for these different things. Some things that were created during the industrial revolution were tanks, automated machine guns, submarines, and chemical warfare, all resources that would be used in war. I do not believe that it makes sense that this change of events, caused by humans, almost eliminated the human race. This impacts clean and affordable energy because during the industrial revolution, fossil fuels were discovered, and now the planet and people are being affected by it today. This triggered climate change and also since we have been using fossil fuels for so long, it is still very common amongst the population and worsens the state of our planet.
The important takeaway that we learned from different wars is that you canʻt take everything for granted. Within the period of wars, all agreements and disagreements lead to many downfalls. When this comes it makes me question if all wars lead up to the next war and it has never ended at all. A couple facts that can support my takeaway is that, after WW1 was “done,” because some countries were stabbed behind in the backs with one allie, and then made a truce with someone else, which made them look less than others country, which then lead up to WWII. Lastly, a treaty played a major role in agreements and disagreements because it could destroy allies which could lead up to more wars, which it did. Reflecting upon these facts, those were some reasons why I think it is an important takeaway. Back in ancient history, our beloved Queen Liliʻuokalani was played the same way, by letting her guard down and trusting the white business men by signing a treaty. She was then lied to and illegally overthrown by them. That is one example of taking things for granted. We can begin to fix ourselves in Hawaiʻi by not making the same mistakes when it comes to agreements and treaties with other countries, which they could do the same to our Queen.

Final Group Reflection
Treysen :
Even though I am a new attendant at Kamehameha Schools I have learned new things not only about being a student but also being a Pua a Pauahi. This will also affect what I will become when a future graduate of KS. I consider the community that is the most important to me is my family and my friends. This is because they have the most influence on what I have been taught and what I will learn. I consider myself lucky that I have been able to get into Kamehameha to improve my education. I am the 2nd generation of my family to actually get a good education, the first being my parents. I want to get advantage of this stroke of luck to further improve my knowledge and education as a student and as a Hawaiian. This then will help me give back to my community later to help improve it with my education. I can also use this opportunity to help contribute to the UN sustainability goals to help not only my communities but people abroad that are also dealing with these struggles within our world. When my education in KS is over I want to go to attend college in the mainland to help further my studies in either law of medicine. This new education that I learn I can use to give back for my community either as a doctor or as a lawyer.

Neshae:
Over the past few years, I have learned much about my role as a pua a Pauahi and a future graduate of Kamehameha schools. I have not only gained insight through school, but also from living in my community. I consider my closest community as my family and am continuously reminded of my role as a student at Kamehameha. In the past generations of my family, not everyone got the same opportunities as I do today. My family is very proud that I got into Kamehameha and they are constantly reminding me that I have to take advantage of the opportunities and education so I can be better and help our community grow. I can also utilize the opportunities and gift of education to contribute to and advocate for UN Sustainability goals. There are many UN Sustainability goals that deal with many different issues that are important to the present and future. Later on in life when we go to college and go into our careers, no matter what we'll be doing as a job, we will be helping and working towards a solution to at least one goal. Specifically for me, I want to be a doctor, and although it is not the goal I am focusing on for my Kahiau project, health is another UN Sustainability goal that I can contribute to by working in the medical field.

Khyren:
What I learned about my role as Pua a Pauahi and a future graduate of Kamehameha within my community that I come from is that I can make things happen. For example in the movie and book, Power of One, PK was someone who made things happen and everyone looked up to him as a role model. Reflecting upon that, I can have the power of one to make things happen. I can use what I learned in World History and utilize the opportunities within my community by sharing the ideas that can change the world. Pauahi was someone who I looked up to and the reason why I came to this school. She made this school for many reasons, but in my perspective she made it to make our faces, culture, and label known. In my opinion, she made a change within our community by sharing her ideas for a better future. I can also do the same. I can also use my knowledge of my UN sustainability goal to better my community by leading them to see the right in the world and to vision a better future, like how Pauahi and PK did.
Kapono:
What I have learned about my own role as Pua a Pauahi and a future graduate of Kamehameha is that I can be a role model for those in my community who are young and are ambitious to get a better education and be successful in growing up. You can also be an influence for those who are near your age to get that same kind of education. Some ways I can best utilize the opportunities and education that I received at the school to contribute and advocate for ideals like the UN sustainability goals are by bringing attention to those goals and the importance of them and why we need them. One way I could bring attention to those goals are by posting them on social media, and why they are important, and why we need them on social media. But the way that I plan on helping my community is putting more money back into my community and by providing jobs for those in my community.
