Colonization is the “the action or process of settling among and establishing control over the indigenous people of an area.” Long ago, foreigners came to Hawaiʻi and eventually they colonized us. Ever since then we have lost our title of a Kigdom and became the 50th state of the U.S. Now that we are no longer on our own, but rather under larger “rule”, this colonization impacts my Kahiau project topic of clean and affordable energy. Being apart of a larger country, we now depend on the mainland and U.S. government for our resource and other relative things. We also depend on them for fossil fuels to generate electricity / energy here in Hawaiʻi. I think this colonization hurts our modern efforts to proceed to clean energy because when they came long ago, they introduced us to their way of things and so we forgot how to think for ourselves. Now we are no longer like our ancestors and depend on them and their resources instead of using the land and our own resources here locally. Imperialism has changed understanding of these things in History through the lens of our cultural history of language, culture, and activism in the community. Ever since we were annexed through military force and no longer declared our own kingdom, our perspectives changed as native Hawaiians. In result of this and the foreigners, we lost our cultural identity and part of ourselves as kanaka. We are now taught in our school about the past and hearing these stories, knowing about how imperialism impacted us long ago, still affects us today. We are conditioned to think that all foreigners going to another place where there are natives on that land, is a bad thing, because of our past experiences and stories. In relation, I think it kind of defers us from navigating for a solution to non-renewable sources here in Hawaiʻi. My reasoning behind this is that ever since we became a state, we have not really been able to think for ourselves, being that we are now under the countryʻs power. With them thinking for us, weʻve gotten used to not thinking for ourselves and so we rely on them. However, we arenʻt the only state they focus on and so all these aspects combined result in a delay in coming up with solutions for local problems. Works Cited:

Some impacts of the French revolution include an increase in population due to settled agrarian societies, production/acquisition of food changed and removed the value and need for native skills of survival. Energy was also impacted greatly during this period. The innovations of the Scientific Revolution caused technology to have an impact on the process to become more advanced by being operated by water power. This all relates to my Kahiau project topic because it is clean and affordable energy. Back then the people who came before us long ago were smart and found a way to use water to make power and energy. This is an example of clean energy because it is renewable. This impacts my topic because in the past our ancestors were already thinking about using clean, renewable sources for energy and this history connects to what it going on in the present day with energy. In the current day we are trying to switch to clean energy as our main source of energy, just like the resourceful people in our history did. Understanding all these events that took place and advancements that occurred in History, as well as knowing the aspects of our cultural history helps us navigate through problems to find solutions. This our deep knowledge and understanding of all these things we have insight that can help us find the root of the problem and look back in history to help come up with possible solutions. If we take a look at our history, not only our Hawaiian history, but the history of the world, we can learn from past mistakes and grow from there. For my Kahiau project my group and I are trying to encourage people to choose clean energy as it is good for the environment. Looking back into our history we see how technology developed and things were created. Even long ago our ancestors used water to make power and energy, and so we can learn from their experiments and improve from there to do better when it comes to energy. We can use art in all forms to address the social concerns in history as well as in modern society and share what we have to say about these things. I was recently taught the idea that art should comes from what you're feeling. You shouldn’t try and force art but instead let whatever feelings or thought of mine flow out onto my art. This is why art can be used to showcase social concerns and issues that may be important to as your art comes from how you feel. You can spread your works of art around the world, thanks to social media, so that everyone can hear your voice. It doesn't matter if it’s a painting, a song, or a poem, they all contain the same thing, and that’s what you truly feel should be addressed to come up with solutions for social concerns in history and/or modern society. For my poem I decided to do it on a lamp. I was looking around my room for inspiration and then I looked right in front of me and saw my lamp. As I started writing I changed my perspective from me seeing the lamp to being the lamp itself. My poem talks about what it is like to be a lamp and it’s purpose in life. The second line, “you need light, please allow me” talks about the lamp’s purpose. Whenever we need light we turn on a lamp, but I don’t think we realize how important light is until we’re in the dark. Lamps give us light, and we need light in life, so that’s why I wanted to do my poem from a lamps perspective. The 7 Best Desk Lamps Guide and Review - Archisoup: Architecture Guides & Resources. Alkhouli, Dania. Guest Speaker. March 15. 2021. In this world history class we have been focusing a lot current event advocacy. I believe that the most important connection between World History and current event advocacy is that the events happening currently will eventually be known as history as we go on into the future. In the past there were a lot of things that happened that shaped how the world runs today, but back then those things were known as the current events. This means that the things and current events that we are dealing with and advocating for today will also contribute to how the world changes. Although these are our current events, they will later be known as historical events to the later generations. In conclusion, current events and how or what we advocate for will become history, the worldʻs history for the future. I feel like the most impactful idea or concept that I have gained through the Rock Your World Curriculum (all the guest speakers and facilitators) about the importance of media advocacy in how this generation will create solutions to global/worldwide problems is that the media can be used to positively impact, spread, and address these issues. In the current day, social media is so popular and common in the world. People from around the globe have access to social media which also makes it a good platform to use to address issues that are worldwide. I feel that ever since last year and leading up to now, is when issues that impact people all over the world started to come up to the surface of the media and people began to discuss these problems instead of shoving them off to the side and ignoring them. With the new generations using social media, we are able to advocate for global issues that we feel need to be addressed and heard of by people. We can share our insight and perspective without stressing about getting it out to the world because with one push of a button on your phone, your voice can be shared through out all of social media. I think from now on people will continue with media advocacy to fight for what they stand for. Works cited

Retrieved from https://www.rock-your-world.org/ We learned in the beginning of this school year that the things that happen in the past are what shape the present and future. Long ago, the events of the Silk road, exploration, expansion, and enlightenment made an impact on how the world and people of the past worked . Even though it was so long ago, it still has an impact on us in the present day. As we know, the Silk road had a major impact on the increase of trading. The network of trade routes allowed people of different ethnicities and backgrounds to trade and share things like goods, other resources, ideas, religions, etc. and many more.
