1) From day 1 to the last day I think I would give myself a 4 for the quality of work about history. I have really improved since day 1 and my work has gotten a lot better but I have been slacking the past week so thats why I give myself a 4.
2) I give myself a 5 for the quality of the digital work we did. I didn't have a lot of experience with photoshop or illustrations so learning them was a bit of a struggle. But my work with digital really improved since day 1. 3) I rate myself a 4 for independence and self organization from day 1 because I always prioritized my work and did not turn in anything late. I rarely procrastinated on my work. Just the last week has been a struggle. 4) The work was interesting because I learned a lot of things I never knew before. I learned how to be a leader and what a good leader is. I feel like it is valuable because we can make a difference with this information. I think the books we read is valuable because they had life lessons that you could apply to life. 5) Making connections help us solve problems. If their is a connection to history and a current event we could look back and make sure we don't make the same mistakes again. 6) The Kahiau project was helpful because I learned how to compare a lot of history to how problems start. Poverty is caused and formed in many different ways. It made me apply daily life and history more towards why we have those problems today.

We need a voice to tell our story. If we don't want our traditions, cultures, and identities to be forgotten someone needs to pass it down to the new generations who will do the same. We need to bring back old traditions and pass it on. If we don't practice it will be forgotten and disappear from history forever. We could write everything we know into book and letters that should be passed down and preserved for the world to know and history to record. We need to find a purpose something that will make the natives irreplaceable. Then we can ensure that we will be valued in the world and in history.
At Kamehameha I get opportunities other schools do not get and I should take advantage of all the tools I have to learn. Kamehameha lends us computers for work but we could make websites and letters about spreading culture around for Hawaiians and other people of color. Everyone is on the internet now and the internet is the fastest wide spreading news source there is. We can stand up for our rights and Independence we got, and peacefully protest against how Hawaii was taken illegally from us. GET INVOLVED. (n.d.). Retrieved July 08, 2020, from http://lahoihoiea.org/history/ UH Manoa researches have recently discovered a new type of algae that could turn into a major threat for coral reefs in the areas around. They named it Chondria tumulosa and it grows in rapid spead and can be at least 8 inches thick. In 2016 they were not as worried about it as they are now. When they went back to check on it again they noticed the algae that was covering up the reefs. They deemed this new algae a nuisance and not a invasive species. Scientists and researches are now trying to find solutions on how to get rid of the algae without hurting the coral reefs in the process.
This relates the most to Region because in Hawaii we are close to the equator making the weather perfect for coral reefs to grow and thrive so we have maybe the most. This affects the environment because other animals rely on the coral reefs to stay alive. They feed off of it and create homes for themselves with the reefs. If the coral reefs slowly die from the algae so will every organism that live with it will die to. Geography is important because we do not want this algae spreading to more places and killing more reefs. Australia, Florida, and other islands near the equator need to keep a close eye because they also have a lot of coral reefs and a lot of types of coral is listed as endangered or threatened. This makes me sad for the coral reefs because they are homes for millions of fish, eels, crabs, and many more organisms. The feed off of it and live on them so if the coral dies so will they. It also hurts that another danger is being posed on the reefs. Humans are already super dangerous to them and now we have algae attacking them. This affect Hawaii the most because we have so many endangered species that can only really live here for the tropical climate. They cannot survive without the reefs. There are so many endangered and already extinct animals and plants all over the world but mostly in Hawaii. If we lose even more to the algae the corals will never be able to recover from the significant damage inflicted on them. This will go down in history because if the coral become extinct nobody will ever be able to see them again. Your children will never experience the beauty of that coral and will have to enjoy looking at pictures. Staff, H. (2020, July 08). In 1781 America officially won their independence from Britain with the help of the French. After 7 years of fighting they signed a peace treaty and Britain no longer owned the 13 colonies. We now celebrate this event of July 4th every year to celebrate America's independence. We have evolved a lot since then. We expanded, made more colonies, states, and had freedom. After Britains loss they started retaining other countries like Canada and Africa and created something called the Second British Empire.
When the white settlers got the trust of the Native Hawaiians they started asking for materials. They did not enslave anyone like they did for other islands they captured. Instead they enforced new laws and religious practices they had to follow or they would be beat. They made rules that they could not speak their native tongue, not worship their gods, and only worship Jesus Christ. They took so much from the natives that their economy became poorer and we lived on the brink of poverty. Wilde, R. (2019, June 23). The divers two sites off northwestern Australia. The first, in Cape Bruguieres Channel, contained artifacts that are at least 7,000 years old. At the second site, Flying Foam Passage, they found a single artifact that is 8,500 years old. The leader researcher Jonathan Benjamin said "Our results represent the first step in a journey of discovery to explore the potential of archaeology on the continental shelves which can fill a major gap in the human history of the continent,"
This article relates to Location because North Australia is the where the origin of Aborginal people began. The artifacts discovered could tell us a lot about how the Aboriginal people lived and what kinda tools they had. They date back thousands of years ago and could be added to the history of the people. Geography is important for this discovery because archaeologists want to know how the people’s daily lives were like, what kind of government they had, and what kind of beliefs they had. I chose this article because it relates to what we are learning about. In rabbit proof fence the girls family and tribe were aborginals. It caught my attention because of what we were learning in class. I find the article interesting because it can teach us a lot about the past that we may be missing and it could help us understand them better. This article can affect the world because it could make us look at the Aboriginal people differently depending on what the scientists find. The artifacts were said to date back to thousands of years ago but the first Aboriginal people dated back to 75,000 years ago. This article relates to World History because this will make the world view change when they look at the Aboriginal people. In history they were controlled by the white settlers and had to follow every rule they gave them. But how did they live before white settlers? They couldn’t get rations from them or go to shops. They had other ways and the artifacts found could tell us exactly how they lived and got food. Guy, J. (2020, July 02). Archaeologists find ancient Aboriginal sites under the sea. The Treaty of Versailles was the peace treaty for the end of the war but it had many flaws. In The Treaty of Versailles Germany had all the blame. Germany was forced to pay heavy reparations, lost its colonies, forced to reduce its army, and take full responsibility for the war. The treaty failed to relieve the tensions of war and it started World War 2 in 1939. Hitler started fighting for absolute power since they were wronged in the Treaty of Versailles. He led the invasion of Poland which started the war.
World War 1 and The Treaty of Versailles greatly impacted our kahiau project of poverty because countries needed more troops more supplies to keep the troops alive and this impacted the civilians greatly. They forced anybody over the age of 18 to fight in the war if they were healthy enough. They also had to accommodate to they superiors and gave them all they had. This pushed them to poverty level while the war profiters got richer. Khan Academy. (n.d.). The Treaty of Versailles (article). It affects the BLM acts because there has been very kind companies that are raising money and food for the BLM acts. They also supply those in need with goods for survival. People are losing their jobs and in the mainland mostly white people make up the population. The white people believe that they should keep their jobs and the 'inferior race' should lose theirs. This creates a lot more conflict.
During the pandemic farmers have been slaughtering less cows and pigs because there has been significant jobs losses and people cannot afford to buy meat. This made farmers lose a lot of money so they cut back to save money. In Hawaii it is very expensive to live here because of the housing costs and the goods that come by boat. Now food is more expensive and limited from covid-19 the people living on the poorer side will suffer and will go into poverty. Admin. (2020, June 02). What Is Malthusian Theory Of Population? Even when he was beat for protesting he continued using his strategies. It relates to the Black Live Matter protests because some states are using peaceful protests to get the word out and others are using violence by destroying cars, attacking police, etc. Gandhi was a powerful leader that led his community to freedom and equality.
In current events Hawaii has been holding signs and peacefully protesting against the cops that has killed, assaulted, and hurt the black in the community. In the mainland where there are mostly white people they think violence is the way to prove a point. Many incidents where the protestors stopped the flow of cars to break windows and shout at them to get out and join them. There are also many people who are also turning these protests around and turn them into white lives matter. They don't get the purpose of these protests. The Europeans did suffer from foreign diseases like malaria but they also brought foreign diseases, animals, and plants. The diseases killed the population in numbers and the few left went into poverty because there was no one to produce the agriculture. My group studied the development goal No Poverty because many people are suffering from it especially the middle east. The middle east had many empires overthrown and those people were forced into poverty from lack of resources and money.
About 700 million are suffering in poverty and live off of less than $2 a day. They eat little to no food and it is a really big problem for the world. In the US states that are colder and have harsh weather conditions send the homeless to Hawaii to get rid of their poverty problems. That is why Hawaii has such a big poverty number. They turned the people into slaves to do the work they did not want to do. Like harvest crops and work in factories. These sent the people that were taken to poverty. They did so much work for little to no pay. They could not provide for their families and continued to work til they died. In the middle east the British emptied the Mughal empire of all its resources and took its people for slaves so many people fled to nearby countries to be free. They took nothing with them and ended up in poverty.
Hawaii has been having dozens of food drives to support the people who lost their jobs to the virus.
