I learned a lot while learning about the war to end all wars, Aka World War I. In this war nationalism played a big role in the reason the war began. Everyone loved their nation and had too much pride to back out. The culture all over the world was shocked and changed due to the amount of dead from the new technology. America had no reason to fight other than the fact that they were being called out to help their allies. The Malthusian Flux had a great impact on the population and new view on resources. This is the belief that population tends to increase at a faster rate than its means of subsistence and that unless it is checked by moral restraint or disaster.
Our Kahiau project is greatly related to The Great War. This war brought lots of new disease and death to the people. Three times the amount of people that died in the war actually died after. The transfer of sickness and depression was real and important. We are also working with sick people in our Kahiau project. The influence we have on these children is a direct impact of how well we can help wellness in the world. If America was ruled by capitalism there would not be the same amount of resources for the sick people that there are to help. There are many leadership skills that are needed to address both the big and small picture. Some skills needed for the big picture are equality and betterment of their people. The Industrial Revolution brought much work and it the leader needed to have a good sense or equality for all the new resources. A good leader would see what a good opportunity this was for their community and would want everyone to understand that. A good leader would also be patient throughout the entire process.
In the smaller picture, there are also many leadership skills needed. Some include a leader who understands life in Hawaiʻi and the cost of living. This leader would understand the need for wellness in our home and would help to get it. Wellness is one of the most important things to have a thriving community. Being able to afford medication is important for the people. For our community service we planned to tend to ill kids and their families by raising awareness, and giving our free time to helping the children. With the HUGS organization, they have planned days for volunteers to come and play with the children who need all around care. Each volunteer is assigned a “buddy” for the night event where we are in charge of a sick child and we get to entertain them for the time being, giving their parents a break. In order to have the opportunity to be responsible for a child during the event, we needed training to understand the rules. We had an appointment to take a visit to the official HUGS House where we sat through a presentation that went through the rules and protocol for our community service event. Whether it was from dress code, to rules about how to care for the child, or watch the child, we are now prepared. As of now, we have passed training and are waiting for the event day that was planned. One thing that went well while visiting the HUGS home was home much information we gained. We learned all about the organization and how they help these families with seriously ill children. It was very important for us to go to the training because we are not qualified to work with the children. It went well when we were answering the questions Alan asked us. One thing that could have gone better was we could have asked more questions. There was a lot of information for us to obtain. We could have made better connections with other people if we were to ask deeper questions. This was such a great opportunity that we all got to meet the one in charge at the HUGS home. Yes my understanding of other UN issues of humanity is improving. It is improving because I got insight on the thing that we are doing. Going to the HUGS home showed he how much having a sick child takes out of them. When their child is ill, it takes lots of determination, money, and time to help them get better. The amount of money it takes, a lot of times drives the family to poverty. Our leadership skills expanded because it took leadership to reach out to find an organization to serve. It also took us to come together as a group and put something together on our own time. For example, on the last day of 1st semester we all went to the training session and we had to carry ourselves different. We were representing Kamehameha Schools so we all needed to focus even though there was nobody there to tell us to. https://youtu.be/6gBG6_lqVsU
