I really enjoyed doing this project. I felt like a developed more as a person and learned a lot about giving back to your community. I remember seeing how happy they were to be getting supplies and new socks. I also remember their kindness and how they all said thank you. Some of them were suspicious but I did not care because of how good it felt to give back to my community. I also saw other people watching me which was a good thing too because I could tell they were inspired too.
One pattern that I saw was how each person was happy and how each person always said thank you at least twice. They kept smiling and I could tell that I made a big impact in their life. I learned about different perspectives on homeless people during this project. I found that some people think that there is no point in helping the homeless. I also found that people think homeless people should be our top priority. We often see the idea that homeless people are useless and trash and we can not do anything about it. Well I feel that now people that saw us giving to them will now have a different perspective on homeless people. Hopefully, they will know that they can make a difference. I predicted in the beginning that the homeless people would be hostile and not accept our "goodie bags." However all of them were very kind and gladly accepted them. I was completely wrong. It is important in my opinion to plan long term. It helps you prepare and it sets deadlines for you enabling you to make sure you get things done. One thing to make it better for us would have been the communication. We probably should have set up a group text chat or something to communicate with each other better instead of just planning in class. Nevertheless, I enjoyed doing this and it truly did make me a better person.
