In Australia, there has been a rise of coronavirus cases in immigrant communities. And just this thursday in Victoria, Australia there were 77 new cases reported, these cases were reported from communities with working-class immigrants and essential workers who are particularly vulnerable to the disease. The coronavirus had first spread in Australia from the sharing of a cigarette lighter among security guards working at a hotel where returning international travelers are being quarantined. It later circulated in low-income neighborhoods with big migrant populations, including inside a supermarket distribution center. These outbreaks have also halted the reopening of state borders, undercut plans to create travel bubbles with other countries, and forced 300,000 people back into lockdown. Additionally, officials of the state of Victoria go knocking on the doors of residents warning them of the coronavirus & if they donʻt comply with state guidelines they could affect others in the community. In the past two weeks, Victoria has had daily double-digit increases in cases and the government messaging hasnʻt always been effective due to language barriers and the guidelines translations took too long to reach these people and werenʻt always clear. Also the government messaging hasnʻt always been effective due to distrust of the authorities, fear of virus testing, and people with low incomes may be less able to stay home from work when ill. Some of these communities also experience hush rates of homelessness & overcrowding, which makes it hard for residents to comply with social distancing guidelines. Experts have also said that lockdowns enforced by the police may only harm communities already wary of the authorities and exacerbate their sense of isolation. People of immigrant communities or people of color have also lately been racially targeted for the spread of the coronavirus, these people were of Asian descent & Islamic descent. The people of Asian descent were targeted just for the fact that they were Asian & the Islamic were targeted because there was rumor that a spread happened during a traditional celebration. But they are not to blame, for the people who first brought coronavirus to Australia had been from global citizens, coming back from their cruises and their ski trips to Aspen.
