Colonization & Imperialism impact or play a part in perpetuating the problem in your Kahiau Project challenge both globally and locally because it has obviously displayed poverty over time. Many trades took place which showed that some places were extremely wealthy or richer than others, which leads them to want more for their independent nation or colony. Imperialism is a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force which leads to poverty. It is shown because many people are forced into a life they donʻt want to live and face a number of struggles.
Now looking back on the past, we can now learn from it and take steps to better the future of the people in Hawaiʻi. The people of Hawaiʻi need to give back to the communities and give what they donʻt need to the people that need it. Like the famous saying, "one personʻs loss is another personʻs gain." Also, we donʻt necessarily need to give physical necessities, we can give back by giving our time to help others too. We can donate to the homeless and give back to them, for they need it the most. And for the people high above the middle-class, they can provide them with job opportunities to better their own lives. We, as a human race, need to learn from our past to better the future of our planet and our species.

My perspective on leadership has grown drastically over this semester. I think it is due to the many examples of people throughout history giving me an idea to strive for something greater. Like Benjamin Franklin and his invention of the lighting rod and his innovation of science. Or John Locke, his leadership skills and knowledge paving the way for people of the newer generation to strive for better.
With these examples of people, they taught me not to just shoot to meet a certain point but to shoot pass it. To not just pass a class, but to excel in a class. They taught me to shoot past it, because even if you fall short, what better way is there to live? To live life with no regret and to take each and every opportunity and make it a great experience. We had planned to go and help Hawaii Food Bank pass out and distribute food to the people in need. I’m going to be honest Kumu, my group didn’t do our project this break. We all were extremely busy with sports and trips.
My break went well. I had basketball like three times a week, and I had to take care of the babies. I could have gotten more sleep and got more time for my body to rest so I can come back to school, all rejuvenated. My understanding of poverty is improving and widening due to the experiences I am hearing happening all around the world. Yes, I think with this project, the idea of leadership is also broadening. The idea that random people come together, don't know each other but put aside differences to serve a greater good, is amazing. |
