The leader example of Gandhi and how he handled the onslaught of colonization and imperialism to win back India makes me think of the Black Lives Matter movement because in both situations, there are people fighting for their rights. The British were in control of India for over a century because they were more rich, wealthy, and powerful. They oppressed the Indian people and treated them as lesser. Gandhi protested and fought for his people in a peaceful manner. He had an enormous impact not only on the Inidian community, but the world too. His people looked up to him because he inspired them. This relates to the Black Lives Matter movement because the Indians and the black community have been discriminated for a long time. Right now, there are people who are protesting and what sparked this enormous wave of protests was the death of George Floyd. I believe that black lives matter, and that all lives matter. However, there are so many people who treat people of colour unfairly and that really saddens me. White people who have committed unspeakable crimes serve a few years in jail while a coloured person could be walking to their car and they restrained forcefully and killed. I honestly do not understand why people cannot just accept others for how they look like or where they’re from.
The Gandhi approach is one model of decolonization in modern society because it shows us that by protesting peacefully, we can create change. Gandhi never protested against the British violently and he was able to make a difference. He imbued strength within his people to stand up to the British. Gandhi wanted his people to be leaded not by foreigners. He wanted there to be equality. The Mauna movement is an example of the Gandhi approach because the kiaʻi also protested peacefully. Even when the police officers would arrest them and restrain them for no reason, they still kept the peace. Even now, there are still kiaʻi who are holding down the fort. Gandhi never gave up even when he was being beaten by the British. The kiaʻi on the mauna will never give up either. Works Cited: Attenborough, R. (Director). (1982). Gandhi[Motion picture]. The issue of poverty presents itself globally. Resources correlates to the issue of poverty because without resources, there is nothing. What we mean by this is like having resources are crucial. Humans rely on resources such as grocery stores and farms. If there were no grocery stores and farms, we would have a very difficult time surviving. Most people go to stores to buy the things they need whenever they want but in Africa, their situation is a little different. Some areas in Africa are not as developed as others. Many people there have to walk miles to fetch water that is barely even clean. We think that sometimes, people forget how fortunate they really are. We want to use the resources that we have to teach others about what is happening in Africa. Hopefully, we are able to create change.

I am not saying that I am ungrateful for this world, but that there are flaws to this world and that’s okay. There are many issues in our world today that have yet to be resolved. One of those problems is poverty in Africa. I know that poverty is an ongoing issue all around the world but my group and I are specifically targeting Africa. In my opinion, there is no perfect world. However, I believe that we can try to make a better world. With the information that my group and I have researched, we can spread awareness of poverty in Africa. There are problems connected to poverty in Africa like limited access to clean water, and the lack of food supply including agriculture. Hopefully, we can make a difference and help impoverished Africans in some way.

Retrieved June 12, 2020, from https://www.wfp.org/countries/ghana Africa has many ongoing issues involving poverty. Many people in the African community lack essential items and materials needed to survive. We have learned that they have very limited access to clean water. Also, more than 20 percent of the people in Ghana live below the national poverty line. This problem is due to ineffective sustenance systems. To help fix Africa’s poverty issue, my group and I will be creating a presentation to help our classmates better understand what’s happening in Ghana. Our goal is to further inform others of the current issue people in Ghana are facing. We feel that people need to know what’s happening. Poverty is a real issue and these people need our help. We hope that we can make a difference in some way and make their lives just a little better.
