This past weekend was our first of three trips to Papahana Kuaola. We have agreed to go again this next Saturday, and then again on the third Saturday of February. This past weekend, I had a blast! I was able to learn tons of things about sustainability and which plants were harmful or good for the environment, an it was overall a very fun experience. This issue of poverty and hunger is a worldwide problem, not just a local Hawaii problem. By learning how to be sustainable, we are able to lessen the severity of that problem, and then we can benefit the Earth as well. If we are able to become sustainable, we can leave the Earth in a better condition than we found it in. Learning these skills are going to benefit me and my entire Lāhui in the future because we will be able to keep the Earth well for our future generations. One day, we will become the leaders of the community and we will become the drivers of the economy. If we are able to teach and use sustainable practices, we can leave the Earth better than we found it, and our human race will benefit overall.
