The leadership skills needed to address & execute both the Big Picture and the Small Picture are motivation and responsibility. Motivation is needed because if you donʻt have motivation, your not motivated to get over things like hunger. Motivation is a way for you to get motivated to do whatʻs right. Once you get the motivation to actually do something, you get things done. This is a good trait to have. Responsibility is a big one to have in this situation. If your not responsible, then you basically wonʻt get anything done. You would be reckless and not follow any rules. If you take responsibility, you can get more things done than if you didnʻt have it. Responsibility is a great leadership trait to have.

I think this Kahiau Project impacted my leadership growth the most because it caused me to take control of my group to get the job done. We were behind on our community service because one of the organizations didnʻt get back to us so I looked online for another event that we can do. I took control as a leader to find out the info of this event and made sure we got to do it. We had to get this community service done. My personal motivation to strive for excellence in this class is to get an A because a lot of people say this class is so hard. It is not that hard. It is just a lot of work and if you manage your time better, you can get the work done. I hear all of the time that “Oh, this class is so hard and stuff and I am just sitting there thinking to myself, itʻs because you donʻt put the effort to do your work in this class. As long as you do your work in this class, you will get a good grade. For our community service, we planned on going to the Hawaii FoodBank nonprofit organization. This organization was perfect for our hunger issue because we would have been giving food back to our community to those in need. We planned on doing the Food 4 Keiki project and we called the person in charge to see if we could get a scheduled date but the lady wouldnʻt get back to us. We called multiple times but the lady wouldnʻt answer. We then started looking for other organizations to complete our project at the last minute.
Nothing really went well for this project over break. We didnʻt get a response from the supervisor of the Foodbank and that really tore our hope apart. We were excited to do this fun project, packing food for kids but we couldnʻt get to do it. The thing that couldvʻe gone better was at least a phone call back from the supervisor. We compensated by looking for other organizations we could participate in at the last minute. Yes, my understanding of poverty and other UN issues is improving which is actually making my brain hurt. Itʻs making me think about all of the possible solutions to every problem I learn about. My leadership skills have expanded a lot since the beginning of the school year. In the beginning of the school year, I wouldnʻt have the confidence to call a supervisor of an organization but I did last week. I was trying to contact the supervisor for our project to set a date to volunteer but in result, she didnʻt answer. |
