Maiau is an important quality that reflects our habits, and our standards. We can all start with small gestures like arranging the slippers “me ka maiau” or neatly outside our doorway. We think of good work ethic as a desirable character trait, because we value usefulness, and we admire noble effort in worthwhile productivity. We acknowledge hard work as work ethic, equating it with discipline, diligence, and even with moral character or civic virtue. Good work ethic is not something is not only applied in our ohana, communities, and lāhui but forever in us, wherever we go. A kuleana of leadership to our ʻohana, communities, and lāhui is to Malama ʻAina. We Hawaiians have a huge responsibility and that is to take care of the land. Take care of the land and the land will take care of you.
