The industrial age and revolutions resulted in a steep rise of population. Rapid population growth stretches both national and family budgets thin with the increasing numbers of children to be fed and educated and workers to be provided with jobs. Slower per capita income growth, lack of progress in reducing income inequality, and more poverty are the probable consequences. The industrial revolution has also led to massive pollution which has damaged once usable land and sea which adds to the problem of poverty in Hawai’i. Understanding these things in history allows us to gain a new perspective to the problems that we have today. We can look back for solutions to modern problems. I think that the most important problems that we have in Hawai’i are poverty, high cost of living, and food insecurity, and I don’t think that knowing our cultural history through language, culture, and activism would help that much with these problems. While knowing our culture through those things can have their benefits, but those benefits wouldn't do much to solve the problems that I mentioned. Birdsall, N. (n.d.).
