For the community service, we planned on putting together care packages for homeless kids. We were going to put the regular necessities together, like hygiene products, clothes, and miscellaneous. The hygiene products we were going to include in the boxes were the basics like toothbrush, toothpaste, floss, small shampoos and conditioners, soap bars, deodorant, etc. For the clothing, we were planning on putting in were like socks, gloves and probably small blankets to keep warm. And for miscellaneous, because we were going to make boxes for both adults and kids, we wanted to include toys, books, and school supplies for the kids. See, the thing is, we were all unavailable over winter break. Journee was really busy and so was Leinalu, Mahea had dance practices, and I got sick. Twice. First with sinus infection, then the day after Christmas, I had the stomach flu. Because we havenʻt done any service, we canʻt say what went well and what didnʻt. But the thing that we can fix is our schedules to be able to line up with each other so we can meet up and do our service. Researching about poverty helped me come to a better understanding about it because now I know what the causes are, how it affects society, and how I can help to help prevent it and decrease the numbers of people living in poverty. The application of leadership skills to the Kahiau Project is expanding because Iʻm putting myself out there to serve my community and give back. Although I havenʻt actually completed service yet, I want to give back now by volunteering and working.
