In the Gandhi movie, it shows how much of an inspirational and pure-hearted man Gandhi is. It shows how Gandhi shows his leadership skills through his religion and his personality. For example when he was burning all of the people's passes that was under the British government, he didn't stop even though the guard was beating him up. This shows his strength and will and how we won't give up for his people, and family. When Gandhi called the meeting for all the citizens, he says that they will receive punches and not give them. A quote Gandhi says in the movie is, "Because they may torture my body, may break my bones, even kill me... They will then have my dead body — not my obedience." This resembles how Gandhi would never submit and obey the British even if it means him getting beaten up. Gandhi is true symbol and spokesman of Humanity.
This connects to the black lives matter movement today because just like Gandhi, they're fighting for their independence, their rights, and equality. Gandhi led a civil disobedience, non-violent and peaceful protest which is exactly what the black lives are doing today to show their worth and that that deserve a purpose in this world just like everyone else. This can connect to Mauna Kea and how many Hawaiians and non-Hawaiians were apart of this peaceful protest and movement. This all relates to one theme which is to fight for who you are and your culture. Gandhi Movie Exclusive: Amnesty maps out US police violence at #BlackLivesMatter protests. (n.d.).
