The issue that we chose to address was poverty. Poverty is an issue that occurs all around the world. A large portion of poor people are farmers who depend on agriculture as a source of food and income. For most of these farmers markets are “...often distant, infrastructure is poorly developed and the degradation of natural resources is a serious problem.” (FAO 3). This issue is also common in other developing nations and regions. Almost 10% of the world's population is affected by poverty that is close to 1 billion people. With that “almost half the world (nearly 4 billion people) lives with a household income below $2.50 a day.” These issues are even prevalent among Hawaiiʻs homeless population.
