Our topic we are so compassionate about is poverty. There are global poverty causes that continue to help steep our world into darkness. According to https://www.concernusa.org/story/top-9-causes-global-poverty/ approximately 800 million people in the world live in extreme poverty, surviving off of $1.90 a day. There’s really no clear cut magic spell that will solve extreme poverty, but there are some solutions to make progress on it. A huge problem is inadequate access to clean water and nutritious food. Over 2 billion people in the world don’t have access to clean water at home, while like I stated before over 800 million people suffer from hunger. There is also little to no access to jobs for people. Of course, there is also inequality such as gender, caste systems, or tribal affiliations.
In local news, according to http://www.hawaiinewsnow.com/story/33087891/census-1-in-6-hawaii-residents-live-in-poverty/ Every 1 in 6 residents are living in poverty. Hawai’i is ranked 9th on the highest poverty charts in the nation. A huge factor for poverty in Hawai’i is the high cost of living. An estimated guess states that 149,000 Hawai’i residents are living in poverty. Why this is such a conflict. Us, we take everything for granted. Our water, food, shelter, education, etc. When we look at things from 3rd world countries, we tend to think more and be more sympathetic because it is a harsh situation. But, what if we didn’t have to because poverty would be not such a problem if people decided to help out. People who host food drives or donate water and supplies can help a family in poverty out so much.
