"Impacts of World War & The Malthusian Flux"The Malthusian Flux theory is that the rate our population is growing needs to be managed through disasters, disease, wide spread poverty or the restraint of producing. This connects to the Black Lives Matter movement right now because they are standing up against the racial discrimination toward people of color and the killings that happen from police brutality. They stand against the thoughts that black lives don’t matter as much and that their killing wouldn’t affect the community. This way of thinking has a little bit of the Malthusian Flux Theory and that that can be one way to reduce the population. That is the only way I can think of that the Black Live Matter movement connects to this theory.
The Malthusian Flux Theory is the idea that poverty can reduce the population to a regular amount according to resources. Since this was one of the ways to reduce the amount of people it is still a problem today and is the focus problem of our Kahiau Group Project. We focus on the rising costs to live that lead to homelessness. Some people today still believe it is important for things to reduce the population and because of this they allow some to fall behind the economy and then aren’t able to survive. I think nationalism contributes to the amount of people falling into poverty through their worry about image. Sometimes, nations are concerned about their numbers and how much money they can make because of this more and more people become homeless because they can’t afford housing and in the worst case scenario some die. “Leadership Model of Gandhi"The British were able to establish racist assumptions and beliefs that Indians deserve less. This is an issue with world religions and political things. People of color were tired of segregation and discrimination so an apartheid started. Gandhi took control of the movement and held multiple assemblies and speech for them. He told them to handle it with wisdom and to think before action are done. Gandhi made sure that is harm was done to them they wouldn’t do harm back. They would allow the beating to happen for the country to make them realize their bad ways. This connects to the Black Lives Matter movement because they are trying to show officials, police and the government across the nation that there is racism present in the police system. They are trying to open their eyes just like how Gandhi intended and succeeded.
Gandhi was able to show how much they cause pain to Indians. He wanted them to realize the things they were doing and how their Non-Cooperation got the attention of the world. They were able to never do harm to others which brought peace. Their main goal was to being justice and equality. To do this they had to fight fire with water and it definitely got them an advantage. We can see this way on the Mauna. We stood our ground on the top of our mountain and didn’t bring violence but instead practiced the culture and prayed. This shows that we are able to return back to our ways in times of need. (n.d.). From the video I learned that the people of Papa New Guinea advanced in the agriculture and becoming an Agrarian Society because they could with what they were given. Since some empires could flourish in different values and religions the sometimes traded but the urge for exploration cause a competition. This competition then pushes people to their best, that is how they got the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment period. These people of the empires sought new heights and to reach new thoughts that haveʻnt been imagined. They used Collective Learning to adapt to their environment and innovate new tools for their city. Some of those inventions were money and in todays time it has grown to become the most important thing for lots of people but the biggest issue for others so the fall into “poverty”.
Similar to how empires and societies had their own values and religions, today the worlds has built upon the idea that money can buy anything. Since this is a belief in the American system those without it can struggle to survive and even find anything cheap to eat. Right now they are trying to innovate shelters that is affordable and available for those who need it. Right now the Covid-19 issue has been another weight on those who are living on the streets. Some have recognized this and have come together to bring food drives to them. Mayor's Office of Housing. (n.d.). These companies purchase land that is cheap and undeveloped. They then build mansions, condos or hotels and bring up the value. Since these values go up the whole neighborhood sees these changes and they continued around the state. According to the bureau’s most recent “regional price parities” model, which allows comparisons of buying power across the nation, Hawaii’s cost of living was the nation’s highest in 2017, at almost 19% higher than the national average. Scientific or mathematical research is able to calculate and present the data to the public. Our UN Development goal is Sustainable Infrastructure and Community. This shows that this is one of the most expensive places to live and because of that some are forced to move elsewhere or become homeless.
The issue our group is addressing is the “rising costs of living”. This presents itself in houses and mansions in the million dollar price range that many locals cant afford. Since these prices keep rising some are pushed out of the state or end up on the streets. You can also see this problem through the amount of buildings owned my American companies. This shows that since these costs keep rising only a few Hawaiian are able to kick start their business. “In order to live comfortably in Hawaii, studies show that you’ll need a whopping salary of over $122,000.” This quote shows how expensive it is to live in Honolulu. The government is trying to put together a 5 year plan to help solve some homeless problems. Yerton, S. (2020, March 05). Economists: High Living Costs Continue Driving Hawaii Residents Away. In the Netherlands the title of a manager doesn't take the title of a boss, they still need to finalize a decision once it is agreed upon with all workers. I also found out that they heavily value integrity and since it is something they all intend to uphold they can be allowed to do things that can allow them to be "free". A problem they have there is poverty and the rising cost of living. This is also an issue occurring in Hawaiʻi and we can see this by looking at homelessness. People are unable to afford to rent/buy property because of itʻs rising cost. This can be helped through donations, affordable housing, and shelters.
