-->What are some examples of how IMPERIALIZATION / GLOBALIZATION is creating challenges in your own island, community, state, nation that relates to this UN Goal / Issue? An example of globalization that is creating challenges is the environment. Within the environment there are every day resources that we use which harms the environment and goes to the ocean. Leading into the bombing of Pearl Harbor, which completely wrecked and made our ocean covered in oil… That pretty much stained the sea, killing many and thousands of the marine life… -->Why is this something to consider: Do you see a specific (friends or family you know) with a personal connection to this (and please try to find at least one) - what/who is it and why? Like I said before in previous vlogs with the marine life, they aren’t just animals or mammals swimming in the sea. But for some people or a lot of us, especially on the islands, they play a big role, like tying into our ancestors and so much more. -->What, if anything, are you learning about Imperialization/Globalization and how has your understanding of the impacts of it perhaps influenced the way you see your group topic as a worthwhile challenge or problem to be addressed? What I have learned about imperialization and globalization was that it has played a major role into society as we speak and made huge impacts on us. This is one of the main reason of pollution in the ocean, due to the trash that people don’t know how to throw away and it makes its way down to the ocean and kills or poisons the critters.

What are some examples of how COLONIZATION OR GLOBALIZATION is creating challenges in your own island, community, state, nation that relates to this UN Goal / Issue? An example of Globalization is the plastic that flows in the ocean. This creates challenges for our oceans by killing and harming the marine life causing them to inhale and die. This relates with our goal because our UN goal is ocean pollution and we need to protect our marine, the marine life isn’t just a source of food for us but also a friend or an ʻĀumakua which is our ancestors. Why is this something to consider: Do you see a personal connection to this (and please try to find at least one) - what is it and why? This is something to consider because like I said before the marine life plays a big role into the world especially our islands, This is how our kūpuna survived and lived life, with the fish from the sea, getting their protein. As in today’s era we still live off of fish and everyone on the islands just can’t get enough of a fresh poke bowl for Foodland. Like the marine life has not only become a source of food but gives life an extra touch of specialness. What, if anything, are you learning about Colonization or Globalization and how has your understanding of the impacts of Colonization and/or Globalization perhaps influenced the way you see your group topic as a challenge or problem to be addressed? What I learned on Globalization is that the world isn’t the best at keeping trash out of the ocean and needs to a better job at that. This has influenced me to help out more when I see trash on the floor or anywhere so that it doesn’t go in the ocean and harm the marine life. What are some examples of your research topic in your own island, community, state, nation Some examples of our research topic is they go all around the island and restore Hawaiʻi for it unspeakable natural beauty. 808 Cleanups conducts decentralized cleanups from mauka to makai, responding to littering and vandalism of Hawaiʻi’s natural spaces, saving Hawaiʻi’s indigenous ecosystem through education, and building sustainable solutions with community partners. Why was this topic chosen by the group: what is a personal connection to the issue or just because you have to do something :) If a personal connection (and please try to find at least one) - what is it and why? The topic we chose was Life Below Water. My group and I chose this topic because we all grew up with the ocean and it’s been a big part of our life ever since our youth. Our island is surrounded by water and just seeing how people treat it, really upsets me. How can this topic change or improve the Hawaii we live in? For who? Does this audience connect with you in any way? Our topic Life Below Water can improve Hawaiʻi because it will help us live a more successful and clean life. Also, with clean waters we will live a healthier life and the marine life will have more chances of living since we would clean up their home. This audience connects with me because I love the marine life and they’re such an amazing species of life. If so, how & why.. do you have personal friends of family members that are or possibly could be in this audience? I do have personal friends and family members that are apart of this audience. My family is one of those families that love going to the beach and love the marine life. Seeing all the ʻōpala in the ocean and how the sea creatures inhale and eat what’s in the ocean, which kills them is sickening. What do you think of your ability to make an impact in the community & possibly make a difference in this issue? Why would that be important? If I’m being honest I feel like my group and I could make a pretty big impact in the community. If we all just took time out of our day and all malama the ʻaina the ocean will be clean and everyone will live a happy life. That would be important because a happy life is a successful life, and the waters will be cleansed for us and the marine life. What kinds of lessons do you think you will learn from this Kahiau experience? Lessons I think I will learn is the importance of throwing away your ʻōpala and picking up other people's trash when you see it. This will do a huge impact on keeping the marine life alive. Over this break, we did some planning on what our goals were towards the project and what are plans are to make it happen. I did some research on the causes of ocean pollution and a lot comes from people not knowing how to throw away their trash, which gets blowed into the ocean and causes many of the marine life to digest it and dies. This is why we were planning on doing some volunteer work with 808 Clean Up to clean the ocean and make the ocean clean once more.
