Overall I feel as though the enlightenment, industrial revolution, colonization, and imperialization worked together to create one major problem poverty. More specifically I will be looking at two components colonization and imperialization. If you really think about it with colonization and imperialization peopleʻs countries were being conquered and taken from them. Through these two things, a variety of factors can play into people living in poverty; for one if land is overturned it is not guaranteed that the local people will be given an equal wage to their racial superiors. Besides this, colonization and imperialization can lead to discrimination; if there is any form of discrimination in a workplace from someone in a high position that person is more likely to lose their job. Discrimination can be from things like race, religion language practically anything. Through these things language and culture could also be lost leaving people in complete shock. The two specific components of poverty are colonization and imperialization.
Here in Hawaiʻi we have grown and sunk a substantial amount due to colonization and imperalism. We have dealt with disrmination amongst our people. However, in order to truly deal with the problem of poverty, we need to gain our native identity back. We should not have to be afraid of discrimination in the workplace or even when walking through the streets. We need to begin to see ourselves as equals with the foreigners because although we as Hawaiians have been through the moon and back with our culture everyone is still human. Together we need to make an effort to influence others to choose decisions that are in the correct path; their decisions is what can revolutionize the face of Hawaiʻi. If people living in poverty can feel comfortable with who and what they are they will be more likely to call for help. We as Hawaiians need to take control of our land!
