Originally for my group project, we planned to go to the salvation army; however, after having a problem with available dates we had to move on to another organization. The next organization we chose was the food bank; despite emailing them they did not respond and still have not responded to our email. After all of this we moved on to Lanakila pacific meals on wheels; however, this organization also had the difficulties that came along with it. We ended up having a problem with one of our applications, finding a chaperone and above it all they are not very quick in response to their emails. We ended up not completing the community service that we had planned to do over the break due to many setbacks. Despite these problems we are planning to start our community service soon. Although we havenʻt made it to the community service yet, I hope that when we do get the opportunity to go that we will have created even the smallest difference in the community. I feel like we would have been able to complete the service by the original deadline if we had emailed the organizations all at once. By doing this I feel like it wouldʻve prevented us from scrambling around to find community service. However, despite our downfalls, some problems laid out of our hands because of the delayed responses of the organizations. Overall I feel like once we are able to get everything in order our community service will be a memorable time for all of us. As we continue on in the project I believe my understanding of all of the UN issues will deepen. However, due to the fact that we have not done the community service yet, I have not been able to grow as much as I would have liked. To me I feel like I had excellent leadership skills, to begin with. Despite this, I feel like after completing the community service I will be able to deepen my leadership skills. I believe that at this organization I will be able to work with and observe those who take charge in their community to make it a better place. aloha united wayʻs society of young leaders. (2017).
