If Imperialization is: a policy of extending a country's power and influence through diplomacy or military force;
-->What are some examples of how Capitalism & corporate economics (Walmart/Walgreens/Target, etc) is creating challenges in your own island, community, state, nation that relates to this UN Goal / Issue? Businesses such as Walmart, Walgreens, and Target are all focused on the betterment of their businesses. With their minds set on their business, corporate businesses could care less about the repercussions their selfish actions have on the ocean. Some businesses dump their waste or dispose of it improperly for the simple-minded reason which is that it's cheaper. Their improperly disposed waste makes its way to the ocean and harms marine life as well as the ocean's overall condition and health. -->Why is this something to consider: Do you see a specific (friends or family you know) with a personal connection to these issues that connect with poverty or other social challenges (and please try to find at least one) - what/who is it and why? My uncle is homeless on my island, he is a personal connection I have. Capitalism by corporate businesses doesn't help much, they are mainly focused on their business and don't care about the homeless. He lives on the beach in Kilauea and fends for himself by hunting and fishing for food. While living at the beach he does his best to clean up the rubbish and repurpose it for his camp. -->What, if anything, are you learning about how economic trends impact your Global issue and how has your understanding of the impacts of it perhaps influenced the way you see your group topic as a worthwhile challenge or problem to be addressed? Ocean pollution is worsening with the years that come. It has already become a huge problem as a result of corporate businesses selfish actions in the past and present. We already knew that ocean pollution was not a quick one time fix kind of issue. Through the impacts of economic trends, we can clearly see that we cannot easily clean the ocean and then expect it to stay clean forever. Our group now knows that ocean pollution is an issue that extends far past the product of a few thousand people forgetting to throw their trash away. We know that the economic trends greatly impact the condition and health of our ocean. We can learn to plan accordingly depending on the current condition of the economy.
