This project has had a major impact on me because it's given me multiple view points on what goes on in the world. Helping the animals reminded me that we're all living beings and every living being needs and has a chance to be loved and love another person or being. It's a blessing to be cherished and I believe that animals deserve a chance. Not everybody knows what it's liked to be abandoned, let's not make it to an extent where animals are affected as well.

Hey guys, soon our project was finally completed, but sadly I couldn't go due to my parents. It makes me feel sad that I couldn't have a first hand experience with these wonderful animals as well as I feel left out but that's entirely my fault. I'm glad that the rest of the girls could go in my place and help support the dogs in getting adopted. Through our group chat I watched over what they talked about and through social media, I was able to see the dogs they got to interact with. I truly regret not being able to go, but I feel like my spirit was with them and will continue to help dogs in our community find a loving home.
What makes this project help us become global citizens is the fact that we're not only helping our own community but trying to raise awareness for the entire world to see. I wanted to have a project that had to do with animals because, hey what would we be without them? They say a dog is a mans best friend. But if there are some dogs roaming the streets without homes, how can they be our best friends? Being put onto the streets threatens not only us but their safety as well. Not being cared for creates a sense of distrust in animals so they can't be handled and hurt once again. They have feelings just like humans but we don't take into account that they would feel hurt too if we just abandoned them. I want to find them a good and loving home, and so does the rest of my group. Even if we can't each take a dog home to raise, I want to support them and help them find good and caring owners. I hope that the news of our adoption brings attention to the needs of dogs all around the world.
Heyyyyyy here's a new update. So currently things are you going really really slow. We have pushed back the date of our event because there were some troubles with getting the permit a and having the Oahu SPCA coaporate and comply tin all of thnpark rules. We still need to contact the people we are coordinating with a FB making sure that everything runs smoothly. Just this week we started working on getting the word out about our event. Shay and I have create different our social media accounts and will start posting and notifying people about the upcoming date. I Jolene everything runs smo smoothly, lets cross our finger!!!
Today I received an email from Mr. Christopher, the president of the Moanalua Gardens Community Association. He has directed me to the Moanalua Community Park - Recreation Center Office Manager, who is under the City and County of Honolulu. If I didn't get a response back, I am to email a man named Clayton Toom who is one of the directors at the Moanalua Gardens Community Association. Hopefully they answer.
I then got an email from Mr. Clayton Tom saying that the Manager would be out for meeting so I have yet to call. I really hope they answer. Today, I received a call from the Mililani Dog Park once again regarding our event. The district coordinator was happy to help me and started to explain the process of being able to use the park. He began to say that in order to use the space, I would have to contract a permit from their offices and discuss their rules and regulations. That seems like a major set back to our planning process because it is a several week process and I'm sure that our group wants to keep moving forward now that we're getting confirmations from all of our organizations. Another thing that upset me and made me realize that Mililani is maybe not the right place is that they said we may not be able to hold the adoption because there are no sales allowed on park grounds. The process seems a little excessive but I understand that. Hopefully we choose wiselly.
Today, my group and I had time to work on the Kahiau project and I believe we made significant process. My part of this project is to research and contact different Dog Parks so that we can hold our event to help raise awareness of neglected dogs in the Oahu SPCA shelter and hopefully get them adopted. I made several calls on that day, hoping every time that someone would pick up the phone. To be completely honest, some of those ladies were just plain rude. Some of the parks that I had contacted included the Mililani Dog Park, Moanalua Dog Park and Diamond Head Bark Park.
A few days before we came back from break, I had sent an email to Momilani Dog Park located in Pearl City. While searching up other parks, I had finally received a promising email from Momilani that said that they hope they are able to discuss with us the plans for our events so it would be able to happen. What is a major set back for my group is that the park as of now is temporarily closed to the public. With that in mind, we are beginning to weigh our options. A little while later, I received a reply from the Moanalua Gardens Community Association regarding the Moanalua Dog Park. The association has happily agreed to host us, and have even stated that PET-DOPTION seems like a good program to raise awareness in the commmunity. They would like for me to contact them soon so we can discuss the eveent in more details, which include the approximate day for the adoption, as well as the program for the day. Yay, another park to consider! |
