Capitalism is based on an economic system of private ownership bases that produces inequality. Karl Marx believed that capitalism in the Industrial Revolution would change the feudal system, the system where everyone was free and equal, to capitalism with the passing of Enclosure Acts in the 1700-1800 people. These Acts prohibit individuals from having the right to live on land and therefore forcing them to move to cities and towns and work for the factory workers to get money. The Federal System was more freedom-based, where everyone was allowed to grow what they wanted, farm what they wanted, grow their own food, and own their own farms and animals. However, the decrease of the Feudal System which allowed individuals to work their way up excluded that idea due to capitalism during the Industrial Revolution. Capitalism focused more on distinctly identifying two groups based on the economy, where the poor stayed poor, and the rich got richer. Due to the increase of browns and cities because of the expansion of factories, this caused capitalism to continue, allowing two distinct groups of people, the factory workers or the bourgeoisie (the middle class) and the workers or the proletariat (working class). Marx believed that the system made sure the poor stated poor since the pay was low allowing for the factory owners to make an income and continue to stay wealthy. This segregation, like Marx believed, would pursue and carry on to this day where the rich will always need people to do their work and bidding which continues to be the case for people in America and people in Hawaiʻi. This leads me to my Kahiau Project of homelessness in my community. Since there are many people coming to Hawaiʻi from elsewhere (including the mainland) to make a living, many of the locals have been overpowered by the foreigners. This is the main cause of poverty here in Hawaiʻi, the cost of living/ economic crisis (similar to the French Revolution) and overpopulation. Murr, K.B.
