Art can be used to showcase and highlight social concerns in history and modern society. Art provides us with a visual which can show a deeper meaning. Like many art pieces they have a meaning behind them and in activism it can show what they are fighting for and bring emotion to the audience. For example Danya who is an activist wrote poems to showcase issues such as well being. Her words highlighted the issue for the audience and expressed how she felt about it and why itʻs an issue. This poem discusses ocean pollution from the point of view of a coral head. The coral sees the changes in the ocean, it sees the pollution and the cells of other coral dying as a result. It sees the trash and effects pollution has on its home. The coral is sad because of what is happening and the poem is meant to show how pollution is affecting the ocean. Also it brings a point of view and can connect to the audience. It basically asks the question how would you feel if this happened to your home?

The most important connection between World History and current event advocacy is that we see how our current event issues relate to what had happened in the past which we had learned in World History class. For example in my current event write up I had focused on the issue of energy poverty in Australia. The issue of energy poverty came to be because of the coronavirus pandemic. In class we had learned about the past pandemics like the flu, and black death. Some things that are happening today in the current pandemic could have also happened in the past. For example people struggling to pay bills because of the lack of business and staying home and using more energy and resources. Says:, S. H., & Says:, M. (2018, September 24). Why energy poverty is something we have to urgently end. From the many guest speakers we have had they had created something and put it out in the world to address an issue and had their voice heard. It inspires us when making our own projects because it shows us that our voices matter and that we can make a difference. Some of the speakers were activists and made film, music, and other things in order to send a message. It shows us that our voices can be heard in many different ways.
