What are some examples of how IMPERIALIZATION / GLOBALIZATION is creating challenges in your own island, community, state, nation that relates to this UN Goal / Issue?
One example had to deal with Japanese imperialization came costly events such as the bombing of Pearl Harbor. On December 7, 1941, just before 8 a.m. on that Sunday morning, hundreds of Japanese fighter planes descended on Pearl Harbor and laid it to ruins. The impacts of the bombing were much more than human life loss and damage to military ships. It would lead to pollution in the water, and then to near uninhabitable water for aquatic life. Why is this something to consider: Do you see a specific (friends or family you know) with a personal connection to this (and please try to find at least one) - what/who is it and why? Yes, I have family that passed away in the Pearl Harbor attack or Japan's imperialization attempt to colonize Hawaiʻi. I feel that if it weren't for Japan's act of imperialism then our home, Hawaiʻi or Hawaiʻi's ocean could possibly be a much better place. What, if anything, are you learning about Imperialization/Globalization and how has your understanding of the impacts of it perhaps influenced the way you see your group topic as a worthwhile challenge or problem to be addressed? Now understanding that the impacts of imperialization and globalization lead to the condition our ocean is in, It only motivates me to want to reinstate the ocean into a once again good state. Knowing the oceans terrible condition is due to man's selfish and greedy actions just states that it's man's responsibility to fix our own mistakes.
