What are some examples of how COLONIZATION OR GLOBALIZATION is creating challenges in your own island, community, state, nation that relates to this UN Goal / Issue?
Ocean pollution and the decline in marine life are a few examples of the challenges colonization has created. Colonist brought the plastic that to this day pollutes the ocean, they have changed the condition of the ocean forever. From the pollution that was a result of colonization led to the decline in marine life. Why is this something to consider: Do you see a personal connection to this (and please try to find at least one) - what is it and why? Yes, ocean pollution affects me on a personal level. I was brought up in this world to always take care of the ocean and the marine life that inhabits it. Our ancestors knew the importance of having a healthy and sustainable ocean. We need the ocean to survive, coexistence between us and marine life is crucial to the future of the Hawaiian Islands and us as humans. What, if anything, are you learning about Colonization or Globalization and how has your understanding of the impacts of Colonization and/or Globalization perhaps influenced the way you see your group topic as a challenge or problem to be addressed? Ocean pollution wasn't much of a threat in the far past, but with the years that came, so did foreigners and the product of their arrival was colonization. As colonization took place, the Hawaiian Islands were changing drastically. With colonizers came their idea that we aren't using the land "correctly." They would then use it "better" and in the process of their "better" use of land, they would pollute it. The pollution started by colonist is left for our generation to clean up, we have been left with the effect of their "better" use of land.
