On my island Kauaʻi, there is a lot of water pollution/trash all over our beaches. On the beach called Lidgate, there is a lot of trash in the water and on the beach whenever there are heavy rains. This is a big problem because that beach is a fish pond with many different species of fish, so there is an organization that focuses on cleaning up Lidgate. The community participates in beach cleanups all over the island which is really good, and we should continue to practice this. In our state, there is a lot of trash in our waters and a lot of it comes from us. It doesn’t take a lot to put something in the trash cans but we don’t. Our nation is suffering the consequences of water pollution, the great garbage patch is a great example. This topic was chosen by our group because we needed to but we also care about our island chain and we thought that we should at least try to take part in taking care of it. This topic can change Hawaiʻi because we there will be less trash in the water. We will also improve the quality of trash in the water reducing the amount of fish death decrease. I want the future generations to grow up in a place where they don’t need to worry about this problem. My family could be an audience in this. My ability to make an impact in the community and possibly make a difference in this issue is pretty strong, as long as I continue to bring awareness to this issue. I think it will be important because our world is falling apart, and I think that it’s about time I do something about this. some lessons I think I will learn from this project is that I will learn what it is like to care about something so much that I am willing to do anything to make it better. I will also learn what it means to be responsible and respectful to the ʻaina.
