There were many things that affected the Cold War, however here are three that made the most impact. The first would be the technological race between countries. These were called the nuclear arms race and the space race. America remained at gold beating out Germany which must’ve caused tension. Another hotspot would be the Vietnam war where the US government demolished the Peace Accords to help South Vietnam. This was done because President Nixon resigned leaving the democrats to take over and exempt America from Vietnamese connections. The last hotspot would be the Berlin Wall or Iron Curtain. This wall was constructed in order to segregate countries in order of their economic systems.
Looking back on what we’ve learned this past year, wars have never really ended. I doubt they will ever come to a halt as long as power, greed, and opinions exist. Taking a look at Hawai’i’s economic standing, we are more of a communist/socialist community. This is because nobody really owns anything. In the case of old Hawai’i the land is the government and from there is the monarchy who direct the people. Nonetheless, people have/had rights to their voices as long as they kept in line with the kapu. This is a threat to the US because Hawai’i will become independent, and the US wants to maintain control being we are a perfect resource in the middle of the pacific. As for the systems that have been set up for Natives by foreigners such as homestead, I do not agree that these systems help. This is because of the fact that these “benefits” actually make the native people more dependent on the foreign government.

From the presentation on the ending of World War II, there were many things to take away. However, it’s these three tech advancements that are of the utmost importance; because they ended the war. The B17 flying fortress, Little boy, and Fat man bombs are those three advancements. The US used these weapons to push Japan to surrender and end the war. A warning was first issued, then the first bomb was dropped. Japan had no intention of backing down, therefore the US dropped another atomic bomb and the war became a done deal.
When it comes to power and greed everything ethical becomes foggy, and fear begins to blind values. In the context of WWII, some leaders wanted safety but most were hungry for power. They succumbed to fear rather than standing up for the values that were the “bases” of their nations. Today our nation’s leaders; in specific US and Hawaiʻi; could and should be harsher on the stay at home act regarding COVID-19. Whenever there is an opportunity to move those who are in their way whether it be on the Mauna or in Nalo they have no problem taking them to Jail. However, in the midst of a pandemic where people are putting strangers in lethal danger, these same leaders look the other way. In connection with our Kahiau project, the aftermath of the war continues to pollute our oceans and atmospheres. The weapons and technology developed are still being mass-produced using the same underdeveloped forms of fuel that deplete our O-zone layer. There are two technologies that have continued to play a huge part in world war II. They would be mass production and ships to export the goods. Mass production contributes to this war by producing artillery and supplies needed in soldiers, as well as refugee camps. The development of ships in this era allowed business owners to transport more goods making them more money. These technologies still affect Hawaiʻi today mainly because of our geography. Today we heavily rely on the big Matson containers from other countries docking on our harbors. Weʻve gave so much of our trust to shipping companies that they control our lifeline.
The factors of WWII as well as I play another large part in what our Kahiau project focuses on; global warming. By taking action in switching to renewable energy sources or cleaning up our islands, we are doing much more than slowing the deterioration of our O-zone layer. We are becoming more self-sufficient as a lāhui. We are nursing the ʻāina back to fruition so we will be able to live off of her as we have in the past. In the potential situation of WWII, we will be better prepared to protect ourselves. The Treaty of Versailles was a critical part in the 20th century for various reasons. Specifically, the creation of the document itself was done in my perspective wrongly. It has been known throughout history that only the winners get to tell the story that sticks. The creation of this treaty struck major power imbalance causing countries like Germany to retaliate in inhumane ways. This treaty was important for peace at the time, nonetheless, it was also a crucial part of brewing WWII.
Similar to what was mentioned previously, the Treaty of Versailles was a key part in setting up WWII. The Document was negotiated mainly by the Britains, France, and America. Within this negotiation, it was decided that most of the blame belonged to Japan and Germany. Therefore, those two countries stepped back and built their empires from then on. Today in Hawaiʻi the treaty impacted our perspective geographically adding value to us as a crucial place to use as a camp, or just a place to house and distribute because weʻre in the middle of the pacific. We are the gem that could now give whichever country access to the countries surrounding and thatʻs just about half of the world. The two scenarios of the Malthusian Flux theory and the ʻFirst Big Fightʻ example are seemingly the same, with minor differences. For example, the children in the ʻFightʻ scene represent the countries in the given theory. Some kids/countries have a real beef with others, and some are just allies looking to help out friends. Meanwhile, there are the bystanders staying away from all the action and keeping to themselves, staying away from the danger. Similar to the Malthusian Flux, the fight starts small and advances the heavier the stakes become. Although it may not be seen in big bold letters, it is apparent that the Malthusian Flux theory plays a very large role in feeding our problem of climate change. The more our population grows, so do the numbers of waste, fossil fuels, and overall pollution. For a while, our earth could take in our toxins and reuse them as food for her soil, however, we humans are in over our heads. From the presentation given, the Malthusian Flux Theory is about how the population increases at a faster rate than itʻs resources. By wasting and trashing our planet today with fossil fuels, oil spillage, and garbage patches we are slowing down out resources and speeding up the population.
